This rifle is part of the Canadian Future Small Arms Research (FSAR) project.

A bullpup design that features the ability to install either a three round 40 mm grenade launcher, or a 12-gauge shotgun.

The next phase will feature a TrackingPoint style system to automatically detect targets and assist in engaging them.

There's some obvious similarities between this system and the US's early OICW program. Although the article describes an optimized prototype as being lighter than a conventional C7 & M203 combo.

You can see them test fire several types of munitions in the video. Watch for the 5.56 ejection!

There are some serious ergonomic issues with that design.

I won't be buying futures in this one.  Seen this plenty of times - someone in procurement watches Aliens, thinks those guns are bad-ass, puts out a proof of concept request, people spend tons of money building absurd prototypes, and nothing ever goes anywhere.

Bottom line - it's pretty tough to drastically improve upon current platforms.  They burned the SR71 blueprints because they just assumed in 10 years it would be obsolete - not realizing they had pretty much caught up to the limits of physics.

25m zeroing procedures certainly wont work with that abomination... Talk about bore axis problems
