Just picked up a Ruger Blackhawk convertible revolver  in .45 Colt/.45 acp so I'm getting back in to reloading. Looking for a mold to cast some slugs but not sure what slug would be the best for light range loads @ 7 to 10 yards. Based on a quick search the most popular seems to be a 200 grain semi wad cutter. But I've also read that a round nose slug is a better choice for the convertible revolver when it 'jumps' from the .45acp cylinder to the barrel. Anyone got a preference?

I use the 200 SWC with good results. Back when I was casting I had a mold for a bullet designed for the 45 Auto Rim (I think it was 225 gr) that works well too.

@ 7 to 10 yards i dont think it matters. For longer range, get a lswc. The Lyman #452423 at 238gr.(if you can find one)  ,  with the longer bearing surface will align straighter in the long cylinder throat, producing better accuracy.  Alliant Unique 5.0gr to 6.8 max.  45 acp Revolver.

My blackhawk likes the RCBS 270 SAA pretty good cast with straight clip on wheel weights.

(ETA  Whoops.  Just noticed you were looking for ACP bullets.  You'll want something that will allow you to head space off a taper crimp on your brass with the blackhawk acp cylinder.)

It might have just been the brand of bullet I was using (and I forget what brand. Something I picked up years ago), but the 230 gr. RN shot the worst for me in both cylinders.  I had some 195 gr. LSWC from a local caster that had worked well in the ACP cylinder.  And the 250 gr. XTP gave the best results in the .45 Colt cases.

All shots were fired through a 4-5/8" Blackhawk at 25 yds.

I would look at the 225  TC design like this
