I've decided to buy one big(ish) ticket item this summer for my bench, I've heard nothing but good things about giraud, and I hate trimming brass with my little foster in any quantity.  That being said, I also have been making a lot of 300 brass out of 223 and some 6X45 as well, so the idea of getting an annealer like a bench source as well. Right now I'm thinking of the trimmer and getting a cheaper annealer since that seems like it will be done in smaller batches than trimming will. Any suggestions, or other brands I should look at?

Trimmer, makes case prep a breeze. I went a different route than the Giraud. I picked up the CTS Pro 600 from CTS. Great piece of equipment.

Trimmer, then look at the annealer build thread on castboolits , it's a simple project and can be sub $100

Trimmer.

Annealing can be done with a power drill, small propane torch and some Tempilaq: no fancy machines needed.

You should trim your rifle brass EVERY time you size it, but how often will you anneal your cases?

I'd go with a Giraud trimmer first.  And I'm setting up to start making 300 BLK cases from .223s - I'll be annealing the way dryflash3 shows in his post above.

I'm going to pick up the Dillon RT 1500, since Dillon said it'll trim 300 in one pass. And, since I have a 650, it makes the most sense.

Whichever you go with, seems a trimmer would be more appropriate to have first.

This is what I would recommend also.

All you need to anneal.

Trimmer.  For a huge majority of reloaders annealing is not required.

I coudn't see wasting a perfectly good Forster Trimmer, seeing that the company now sells 3-way cutters that trim, deburr, and chamfer in one pass.  So I motorized my Forster with a $100 drywaller's screw gun with a clutch, and have an arthritis-friendly trimmer that's nearly as fast as a Giraud.  Click the picture below for a video demo.  (you DO have to know how to glue PVC together.)

Giraud it is.

I also looked at a simple annealer for less than $100 but will look for the thread just because I love a little DYI project especially if I can make it nicer on the lathe, or mill at work.

I may try that for some of my other rifle cartridges, that I don't do in bulk
