Hello reloaders of arfcom.  I don't currently reload and have accumulated about 35 pounds of .223/5.56 brass.  I have no idea what this is worth if I try to sell it locally to someone who reloads.  How much does .223 brass go for per pound or per 1,000?  And how many pieces of brass are there per pound (I don't have a lightweight scale to measure)?

Thanks!

Check out the EE for a benchmark on pricing.

Mike

+1. Depends on headstamp, what shape the brass is in, etc., and it also varies over time.

I paid $100 shipped per 1000 LC once fired brass back around March or April.

223 is about 14# per 1000. About $125 to $150 per 1000. Winchester and LC seem to go for the higher prices while lesser known go for less.

I think $80-90/k is more fair today. $60-70/k is closer to where it should be

Fair to whom?

$0.10 a piece was the standard pre panic, once fired rate IIRC.

Thanks all!  I didn't think to check the EE for prices.  And thanks faldoc for that link.  So I guess I have somewhere around 2,500 cases.  12lbs of it is what I picked up from my shooting at the range, is in all good condition and mostly XM193, Fed AE, etc.  The other ~22lbs is from a carbine class last weekend.  It's pretty dirty, a mix of all kinds of brass and I'm sure some of it's dinged up from people stepping on them.  <snip>

Sorry dryflash, I did not intent to turn this into an ad.  I'm planning to sell it locally; just wanted to make sure the price seemed reasonable.  Thanks

Nope.  In October of last year I was paying $60-$70/1K shipped for LC/RORG/Remington/WCC.  The prices now are too high and I refuse to participate.  If you don't need it now I would wait as it will go down sooner or later.

I paid $45 shipped for 700 pieces 2 days ago on the EE if that helps you any.
