It's been quite a long time since I actually made any rounds. Last night worked up some loads for some 62gr RMR - BTSP's and also some Everglades 75gr JHP-BT's. Worked both up with some TAC and was able to get to the range this morning which was nice.

Loaded 300+- rounds of .45 to go shoot a bit yesterday and spilled a case on the shellplate returning it after random weigh. Vacuumed the powder with the shop vac and left to shoot. Came home last night to 2 missing shellplate pins. Looked for 20 minutes than realized that I had to dig through 6 months of random gross shop cleanup to recover pins and hope they were there. It's unfortunate that at some point in those 6 months decided to clean the shop litter box.

Which annealer is that? Looks nice

I really want to get my own machine for that, but I always spend my money on something else.

My chore for that last 2 days was final prepping for a run of about 3,000 .223 brass.
I set up my press in the house so that I can have temp control. All I have to do now is run through my Load master to charge, seat, and crimp.

I went through one container of sized .38 Special cases to assess "consistent length."  Supposedly the trim length for .38 Special is 1.150", but most of my brass was pretty close to 1.148".  I decided to go with that length, and any cases that were longer than that I trimmed to 1.148".  Out of about 375 cases, 210 were at 1.148" and didn't get trimmed, while 168 got trimmed to match.  No real problems doing this, but I discovered that CBC cases seem to be kind of thick - they took a LOT of effort to get the trimmer pilot into the case mouth.

I still have to chamfer and debur the trimmed cases, and I have another container just like that one that I have to sort and trim as needed.  And that's only the cases that I already had sized.  I'm glad my RCBS case trimmer (the old style with collet case holders) was up to the task.  But my shoulder is kinda sore from all that cranking!

Belled 300 pcs. of 9mm para yesterday

Beautiful day today so a buddy came out to my home range and we shot a couple hundred 9's and a 50 box of .45ACP. He bought 2 boxes of new 9mm factory stuff but all the rest were my hand-loads
Let the brass lay and will go back tomorrow and recover those

Started cutting 556 blanks to make 22 tcm. Did a few test pieces to make sure they would work.

Attachment Attached File

Had to cut them, anneal them, size, and then trim. Still haven't trimmed them.

Also wet tumbled a bunch of 9mm. They were extra dirty.

I sorted the rest of my already-sized .38 Special cases into "needs trimming" and "doesn't need trimming" containers.  I have about 200 that need trimming to be the same length as the "doesn't need trimming" brass - 1.148".

I specifically did NOT trim any more brass today.  My shoulder is still sore from yesterday.  But I'm looking at taking the crank off of my trimmer and replacing it with a piece of threaded rod I can chuck into a drill.  There's a gadget some guy makes that looks like a 1/4" hex drive shaft and screws into the crank end of an RCBS trimmer, but I don't want to spend $11 plus shipping for it, so I'm game to WECSOG this adapter.

Cut down a total of 507 blanks for 22 tcm, then I annealed those 507...

Holy cow this is a slow process. I still have 2 full ammo cans to cut and anneal to get all caught up.

Not today, but sunday I tried to cast some bullets with a new mold I got. A lee .309-230gr double cavity mold. It's way different than the steel lyman mold Im somewhat used to. With the lyman I never cast frosty bullets even if I went fast and I had the pot set around 9. With the aluminum mold I went from too cold straight to too hot and frosted. Im not sure if that's a bad thing. I watched a youtube video by that Iraqvet8888 guy and he said frosty bullets worked just fine for whatever he was doing. I dont even have a Blackout yet, but was hoping I could use the projectiles in other 30 calibers. Oh and a 2 cavity mold sure is faster than a single cavity. I'd say make it a 6 cavity, but I dont want to go too fast since I like casting bullets.

Started glue up of a new reloading bench top:

I initially had problems getting all the 2 by material to line up flush with each other.  So I decided to tongue and groove it.

I started a thread in GD about it.

It is for a bench I bought off Craig's List about ....maybe 8 years ago.  The base is awesome with all these drawers and stout mortised, tenon'ed, and pegged legs.  The top that came with it was a hollow core door.

I ordered the commercially available power drill adapter for my old-school RCBS trimmer.  The handle is held on by a #10-32 screw, and I couldn't see a way to efficiently do anything to a #10 screw that would make me feel the drill was going to really hold it tightly...  I'll post pictures when I get it and show how it works.

Setup the 550 for 45 Auto Rim... no more moon clips :).  Only ran off some ladder loads but expect them to duplicate 45ACP for the most part so not expecting any surprises - just your typical 3.6/3.8/4.0/4.2 Bullseye over 200g LRN.

Of course I'm in the middle or processing a few K of 223 on the 1050 so the RF-100 is setup for small primers... had to pick primers manually...the horror lol.  Haven't done that in a while :).

Getting ready to start tumbling some 9x19 and .380. I'll store the .380 and wait until I have significant numbers before I commit to buying the dies...and process the 9x19 later on today.

ETA: Used Amazon and ordered a Lee Precision 380 Carbide Die Only. Need to start the processing prep work before it kicks my ass later on down the road.

Awesome - everybody kept talking about that "build it yourself" deal with cables and backup cameras, homemade brackets/stands, splicing this here and that there, etc - too much hassle.  The Whilster 3509P was just plug and play essentially :).  Glad you like it I am loving my setup.

To keep OT, ran another K of 223 through the processing head... figure a few more days at 1K each and I'll be done sizing/trimming all my bulk 223.

A couple weeks ago I started casting some bullets with my new 405 grain .459 Lee Hollow Base mold.  This mold is very nicely designed and it casts some big, beautiful bullets.

I powdercoated some with Harbor Freight red using the shake n bake method.  I had a hard time getting the powder to stick.  I'm guessing it may have been a higher-humidity day and I wasn't able to generate a good static charge.  Nevertheless, I was satisfied in the end with the amount of coverage I got.  I sized the bullets to .459".

I loaded up some .45-70 test loads using 47 to 50 grains of IMR 4064 and 46 to 49 grains of IMR 4895.  These are all pretty much within Trapdoor load ranges, even though I was shooting them out of my new Marlin 1895.

The wife and kids are out of town this weekend, so I hit the range this morning to test my new loads.  All shooting was done at 50 yards with open sights.  The rifle definitely favored 4895 over 4064 with the best group of the day being 1.6" using 48.0 grains of 4895.  I suspect the rifle may shoot better than that, but at 50 yards, the front sight pretty much covers the entire yellow targets I was using.

It was a great day at the range.  Somebody was also nice enough to leave me a ton of .45, .38, .223, and 9mm brass to scoop up!

Wet tumbled about 200 pieces of .223.  It's outside in the sun drying right now.

Belled about ~600 pieces of 9mm.  Realized I'm running pretty low on 9mm projectiles so I need to get more

Nice!  But I had fun building my own system.

My own update: I deburred and chamfered the .38 Special cases I'd already trimmed.  That was a total of just over 160 cases.  So to calm my OCD, I trimmed and deburred/chamfered enough more to make it an even 200.  I feel better now.

I bought/ordered all the necessary equipment.  I now need a work bench to attach some of it and to store anything else.  I'm still deciding on how I want to build my work bench, I haven't found any prefabbed stuff that I like.  Waiting for the stuff to be delivered also gives me some time to look through the book and check out bullets and decide on that.

Also gave my cleaner a whirl with the brass I've saved.

I'm giddy.

You mean page 3 :).

1k more 223 brass processed tonight, bent the sh** out of a Dillon Universal Decapper, not just the removable pin (I have spares) but the stem it screws into as well.  Switched over to a Lee Universal Decap to get through the batch.  Will call Dillon Monday about a replacement.

You are correct, will edit my post. Thanks, dryflash3

Over the last week or so I have been sorting a 5 gal bucket of processed LC that I got as part of an estate purchase some time ago.

Cleaned them in the FART and started using the Hornady comparator to segregate between what must have been two distinct sizing setups by the fellow that did the work - one group is falling right in line with what I would size my brass to, the other is quite a bit over-sized.

Also culling out those cases with significant hydraulic dents in the necks from over-lube.

Yesterday I rolled up 300 69 SMK's over 23.3 gr. 8208 XBR in virgin Lapua brass for fireforming to distinct rifles - 100 per/ea. rifle.

Drying the last of 3000 9mm after washing. Separated the last two range trips worth of brass. .223 going in the FART next, then dry and swage them. Probably should have swaged them first, but meh. Looking at my limited stash, I seriously need to stock up on projectiles.
