These are awesome looking. I like the style of your blades. I've tried making a few blades myself and they were a joke compared to yours. Keep up the great work!

Well i like where that scramasax is going a lot. Have no use for it, but I like it.

It looks badass just like that! Can't wait to see the finished product.

Going to send them off for heat treat? One of the things I've heard that keeps people from working with 10v is the very intense heat treatment.
|
|
That's the idea and why I've tried so many iterations of the hamon etch and polish. I've finally found one that has the appearance I want but doesn't require hours and hours to do. From the time those came off the grinder last night to that picture is only about an hour.
So I'll be able to offer really affordable wicked W2 blades you won't mind using the crap out of. |

Well sometimes I can't leave well enough alone. https://i.sli.mg/cN7ROn.jpg View Quote Nice. I like both designs but I'm partial to the one on the left |

I've got some ringed Gidgee scales on order for both of them. Never worked with it before but it's gorgeous stuff. I really like the left one too. I'm contemplating whether to grind a false edge on it or not. What do you think?
|
|
Yeah that's what I meant. I was working on another one today that is ,187 80crv2. I'll grind a swedge on that one and see how it looks.
|
|
I like the one on the left also but would probably buy the one on the right. Not sure why but it looks good and will end up being a good all around user.
Would like to see it with a couple different types of scales on it. |

Wow! I've never been a knife guy, but those hunter knives are calling me.

Well.... My current project: laminating stainless steel and carbon steel center. I did multiple billets. Most came apart when I started drawing them out. So I made a final billet big enough to grind a stock removal knife out of. This was take 1, there are 2 spots where the weld let loose. It's 304/1095 http://i67.tinypic.com/nxsna.jpg http://i64.tinypic.com/331m58m.jpg http://i65.tinypic.com/1z5hhmo.jpg Here's take 6. Full weld, no delam. Now that I know I can't draw this stuff out I'll start with thinner material because this guy is going to be a bruiser. http://i64.tinypic.com/2u5ywrc.jpg http://i68.tinypic.com/10xtund.jpg rough ground and ready for heat treat. 304 stainless cladding with a 1084 center. http://i65.tinypic.com/14lhmco.jpg View Quote Thats a nice blade! |

Thanks guys. I gotta finish that laminated bowie one of these days.

Have you done any with decorative jimping on the spine?
I really like when someone does a good job blending the design into the scales. |

I've tried my hand at decorative file work once. It's.... Ugly. Will require a bit of practice on my part to get that down. View Quote I missed out a really nice one. I was at a gun show and there was a local knifemaker with a table. I was looking at 3 different knives. They were all skinners. I set the one with the really nice file work and another back because I didn't like the grinds as well as the one I bought. They were both taller than I normally like. I screwed around for a little while then a buddy wanted me to look over a model 12 trap for him. The whole time I was doing that I was thinking about that damn knife. As soon as I got back to the table I saw the guy selling it. Oh well. |

Wow that thing looks super clean. I'm not usually a fan of serrations but those look really well done. Nice knife!
|
|
Thanks J! I prefer not to have them on my smaller blades because they always take up too much real estate but I figured there was plenty of room on this guy.
|

good thing you had a pic of you and the fish! I could not make my eyes see the logo. I thought it was someone riding a camel!
You have good talent there. I like your knives. We cut a lot of knives here too. I own a waterjet shop. |
|
Thanks razerface!
I'm curious how long it takes a water jet to cut a knife profile like the one above. Laser is very fast but I need to develop parameters almost every time I use it since I'm not cutting alloys we typically cut at work. I'm guessing on a water jet you just vary the feed rate for the thickness? |

I'm ready to start my first folder.
If anyone has any input on design in regard to blade profile, handle profile, general form, etc, I'm all ears. I will be 3D modeling it to scale and CNC machining everything but the blade bevels more than likely. Actually if anyone watching this thread has any fixed or folder designs they'd like to see come to life I'd love to see them. I'm pretty good when it comes to looking at something and copying it, or modifying it for my own purpose, or to make it easier to make, but I'm not really very creative when it comes to coming up with something completely innovative. |
|
Kershaw blur with the drop point blade spring assisted but a better lock up style. That's the only thing that I think the knife needs.
If you need one for reference let me know. |
|
How do you mean better lock up?
I believe the patent held by McHenry that Benchmade licensed for the Axis expired this year so I've considered something similar to that, but more than likely my first will be a liner lock. |
