These are awesome looking. I like the style of your blades. I've tried making a few blades myself and they were a joke compared to yours. Keep up the great work!

Finished up my prototype EDC blade that I posted WIP on page 1.  I'm carrying this myself and I love it.

Working here and there on this scramasax.  Because Vikings.  More on this and hopefully a Viking sword coming soon.

Well i like where that scramasax is going a lot.  Have no use for it, but I like it.

I heat treated today.  It looks like the hamon took.  I won't know for sure until I start finish grinding but it looked like it was there after I scotch brited the scale off.

Not quite as distinct as this gyuto but it's W2.

Nope so what are you thinking about with that 10v?

[#13]
One of these most likely:

Then something a little smaller.  Possibly the above just scaled down to a 4" blade and a slightly shorter handle.  I'm heading out to the shop to work on a couple of these right now and will post some photos later.

[#14]
Going to send them off for heat treat?  One of the things I've heard that keeps people from working with 10v is the very intense heat treatment.

[#15]
Yes I will send them to Peters.  I could do it but I don't have a liquid nitrogen dewar yet.  And they need cryo to get the most out of them.  My furnace is sufficient, but until I sell enough to pay for the added expense of nitrogen I'll send them out.
Here is one of the blades the drawing of.  It will be one of my stock patterns.  Both of these actually.  Spear hunter and field knife.  These are both .125 W2.  They will be a matched set, either Koa scales or something similar.  The hunter will have bolsters, the field will not.

That's the idea and why I've tried so many iterations of the hamon etch and polish.  I've finally found one that has the appearance I want but doesn't require hours and hours to do.  From the time those came off the grinder last night to that picture is only about an hour.
So I'll be able to offer really affordable wicked W2 blades you won't mind using the crap out of.

Nice. I like both designs but I'm partial to the one on the left

I've got some ringed Gidgee scales on order for both of them.  Never worked with it before but it's gorgeous stuff.  I really like the left one too.  I'm contemplating whether to grind a false edge on it or not.  What do you think?

Like a swedge?

Yeah that's what I meant.  I was working on another one today that is ,187 80crv2.  I'll grind a swedge on that one and see how it looks.

More work today.  First kitchen knife.

And the custom Becker.  BKT blades are made from an alloy that it's basically 1095 with vanadium.  Also known as ChroVan, 0170-6, other names.  Most Case, Camillus, KaBar, etc as well as many Cold Steel knives are made from this.  The customer asked for a differential hardening line, and I was curious if this alloy would make a hamon as well as trust 1095.  Well it does.... But I messed up.  I typically quench for a 4 count and pull out of the quench to check warp and straighten if required.  This big hunk of steel retained too much heat and auto tempered itself.  Not to the edge and not to any detriment, but enough to ruin a lot of the hamon that was there.

I finished up the 80CRV2 hunter today.  To swedge or not to swedge, I think the answer is to.

I'll be making a hybrid sheath with kydex lined buffalo hide for this one.

Well....

My current project: laminating stainless steel and carbon steel center.  I did multiple billets.  Most came apart when I started drawing them out.  So I made a final billet big enough to grind a stock removal knife out of.

This was take 1, there are 2 spots where the weld let loose.  It's 304/1095

Here's take 6.  Full weld, no delam.  Now that I know I can't draw this stuff out I'll start with thinner material because this guy is going to be a bruiser.

rough ground and ready for heat treat.  304 stainless cladding with a 1084 center.

Spent the afternoon sawing up my hoard of wood.  Redwood burl, figured black walnut, buckeye burl, lacewood, spalted maple.  Sending it all off Monday to K&G for stabilization.  Can't do it myself when it's -22F   Enough for 70 knives probably.  I like wood.

Some of the buckeye is solid, some has some neat voids that I will resin cast.

Have you done any with decorative jimping on the spine?
I really like when someone does a good job blending the design into the scales.

I've tried my hand at decorative file work once.  It's.... Ugly.  Will require a bit of practice on my part to get that down.

I missed out a really nice one. I was at a gun show and there was a local knifemaker with a table. I was looking at 3 different knives. They were all skinners. I set the one with the really nice file work and another back because I didn't like the grinds as well as the one I bought. They were both taller than I normally like.

I screwed around for a little while then a buddy wanted me to look over a model 12 trap for him. The whole time I was doing that I was thinking about that damn knife. As soon as I got back to the table I saw the guy selling it. Oh well.

Yes it would!

Didn't plan on finishing this tonight.  Didn't plan on serrations either.  Sometimes I get a couple beers in me and shit just gets done

Thanks J!  I prefer not to have them on my smaller blades because they always take up too much real estate but I figured there was plenty of room on this guy.

good thing you had a pic of you and the fish! I could not make my eyes see the logo. I thought it was someone riding a camel!

You have good talent there. I like your knives.

We cut a lot of knives here too. I own a waterjet shop.

Thanks razerface!

I'm curious how long it takes a water jet to cut a knife profile like the one above.  Laser is very fast but I need to develop parameters almost every time I use it since I'm not cutting alloys we typically cut at work.  I'm guessing on a water jet you just vary the feed rate for the thickness?

I'm ready to start my first folder.

If anyone has any input on design in regard to blade profile, handle profile, general form, etc, I'm all ears.  I will be 3D modeling it to scale and CNC machining everything but the blade bevels more than likely.

Actually if anyone watching this thread has any fixed or folder designs they'd like to see come to life I'd love to see them.  I'm pretty good when it comes to looking at something and copying it, or modifying it for my own purpose, or to make it easier to make, but I'm not really very creative when it comes to coming up with something completely innovative.

How do you mean better lock up?

I believe the patent held by McHenry that Benchmade licensed for the Axis expired this year so I've considered something similar to that, but more than likely my first will be a liner lock.

Stupid image hosts.  Photobucket is a incestuous mess of ads and bloat, imgur hates Arfcom, tinypic recycles links, and now sli.mg is just all fucked up for some reason.  We'll try imgur again.

My first folder design.  I'm going to build a couple kit folders to get the feel for things then knock a couple of these out.
