I hate to admit it but I'm hooked on the, "Naked and Afraid" series on TV and that motivated me to finish a "camp" knife I ground out several years ago. Originally I was trying to incorporate a chopper/skinner/survival knife all into one platform. The idea is to use the straight edge on the spine for chopping while saving the primary edge for game processing. There is a flat spot left on the tip of the spine for batoning and a pointed tang for cracking/prying/punching/defense, etc.. There are a lot of holes for lashing to a staff or using a safety lanyard. The grinds aren't perfect but I think it will be quite functional.

A good, simple, no frills bush craft knife will probably perform better but being able to explore options is one aspect of knife making I love.

It is made from 3/16" O1, flat ground, micarta scales. The blade was acid etched and then cold blued. I know the bluing isn't going to last long but it looked cool for the pics. While I don't plan on being naked and afraid, I may toss this in my hunting gear to do some lane clearing and game processing.

In addition, I acid etched and refinished another knife I've had around a while. I think it turned out pretty cool.

Feel free to post you your idea of the perfect "Naked and Afraid" outdoor, do it all, survival knife.

Here's one I did years ago.  Still one of my favorites.  Just love the heft and forward balance of it.  3/16" 154CM and 1 1/2" wide at widest.  The magnesium fire starter and scraper blade (also 154CM) slide into the pocket along with a credit card sized diamond sharpener (cut down width wise to fit snugly).  Green canvas micarta for the handle.  Used a checkering file to cut fine serrations along back bevel, the full width of the bevel. Sharpen it on a regular flat stone and it sharpens the serrations, no special sharpener needed.  It will lay you open.

I love the handle on your second one.  Looks like it would really stick in your hand and be comfortable to boot.

thanks for the opportunity to post this.

I love the knives you made and refinished.  They look great.  I all watch "Naked and Afraid" weekly with my wife.

While a great camp knife is great to have, if I could only have ONE item on me that would serve as a knife, tool, axe, etc., it would be a Kukri.  I have recently started adding Kukri's to my collection and they are amazing knives.  I recently picked up the Cold Steel Chaos model with the same steel as the $300 Kukri's.  It is an amazing knife and it can easily chop down 3-5" thick trees to build shelters, chop firewood, work as a machete to clear brush, etc.

But that is just my take on it.  I have seen one guy bring a Kukri to the show and it performed great.

Lukus, I like that knife. The profile looks pretty versatile and the well made sheath makes a  nice looking combo.

I've never owned a Kukris. Will all the fanfare they are getting these days, I've been intrigued.

This isn't a full on survival knife but it does pretty good with chopping chores. I made this one from 440c but have another one made from O1 that performs much better.

It's worked since '71, no reason it should keep right on working just fine.

That is gorgeous.  Does anyone make a a knife similar to this I could buy. I am an admirer of your skill but certainly don't have it.

I made this one a couple of years ago from a leaf spring.  1/4" thick, 10 1/2" blade.  It throws a crazy amount of sparks with a ferro rod, holds an edge you wouldn't believe and despite the size, it handles well enough to skin/butcher game.

Thanks for the compliments everyone.

forgottenben, I do not know where to get a similar one as I honestly haven't seen one like it. I'd offer to make you one but it would take me a year or more to get around to it. I don't make a lot of knives anymore, got burned out.

fighterfixer,  that is a great looking knife. The handle looks very comfortable.

I've only made two leaf spring knives and both were for sentimental reasons. This knife I made for my father in law from the leaf spring of a Model A Ford left to rot in the pasture of some land he bought. The car has trees grown through it and I found a partial leaf buried in the ground. He thought I was crazy when I asked if I could keep the rust encrusted spring. I think the knife that was hidden under all that rust is quite remarkable looking. I'm sure he will think so too when I give it to him.
