Any of y'all heard of Winkler II knives? I saw them on this website and I liked the looks of them.

Thoughts?

Dan Winkler is the maker, he's a master smith with a lot of years under his belt.  By all accounts he does great work.

edit: here's his bio from his site:  link

Yes, I have some of Dan's knives and a hawk. He has a shop in Boone and is a standup guy that makes very nice knives and hawks.

Winkler has been around in the blackpowder community forever. His edge weapons are top shelf. I have no experince with his "tactical" line, but could not imagine them not delivering.

I actually purchased the Winkler II Operator knife from Cornbread. It's a pretty cool store.

if I understand correctly, the majority of edged instruments seen in the modern version of Last of the Mohicans were all done by Dan.

Actually not.  He had some issues with authenticity from an article I read.  Randall King is the only Custom Knife Provider listed in the credits Last of the Mohicans Credits King has made the custom knives for most all of the big movies.  Dan Winkler did make some of the knives, IE the one Daniel Day Lewis is carrying in the Movie Poster.  Most did not actually make it into the movie though due to contractual issues.

Neither here nor there as far as Dan's work is concerned.  He is a top rate Maker and as pointed out above a Master Smith in the ABS.  Most of his tactical weapons have not been forged though.  Not feasible in a mass production world.
