So a good friend of mine sent me this Damascus steel tanto bladed knife. Can't find anything about it online and I don't know beans about knives. I just want to know a little about it.

And if anybody has any suggestions of something I could do nice for him, I'd like to hear them. |

is there no maker's mark on the blade right before the handle? I only ask because shearer has a very clear makers mark.
That first link is closer, but the handle screw head design is different, and the wood is curved vs straight. To me, that looks like a generic blade blank that someone put handles on (at best). At worst, cheap "damascus" import. I'm seeing that blade pattern all over the place, which isn't a good sign that it's a custom. Is your friend a "knife guy" or no? |

Seems relatively low quality with poor fit & finish. The 'damascus' doesn't have many layers, and is a simple pattern.
I'd guess a Pakastani knockoff. Look on ebay for similar stuff. |
