I contacted Armalite about purchasing a left handed AR-50, but they are no longer made. Is it difficult to make the stock of a right handed model comfortable for a lefty or are there conversion kits available?

Try looking on gun broker for a left-handed AR-50, will be easier to do. You'll have to figure out how to make a new cheekrest to work opposite of a right-hand bolt.

The problem of the bolt coming back so far that it interferes with the bolt handle. Even on the right-hand model if you don't have the rest high enough the bolt handle will hit it.

One way guys found to overcome this was to trim off about 1/4" off the edge closest to the bolt handle. So if you plan this, you'll have to put some engineering into it.

You could use the same mounting point on the opposite side and have the bracket contour back low enough and far enough away to clear the bolt.

Left handed AR50's come around from time to time.
It'll be worth the wait to get one and not have to butcher the butt stock to make it fit you.

When the left handed models come up for sale are they a lot more? The right handed ones keep going for 2500ish and I don't want to pay another grand for a lefty. I would rather rig up a right to work if it is a lot more.

They actually do cost more or the same as a RH on gunbroker, however when I have seen them in the wild or at Cabelas used gun website they have been slightly cheaper. Seems like there are just enough people looking for them to keep the prices up and not just enough to get AR50 LH back in production.

Myself as a lefty have tried the LAR , the SHF50 and a M99 and none of them gave me the right "feel" so I sold off a lot of my guns and gear I never really used and went the 82 route and its awesome for a lefty.

When I bought my AR50L from Armalite, it was the same price as a right handed 50.

The 99 is fine as a lefty i just didnt like the cheek feel due to the cut out for the bolt movement also being able to stay on the rifle with a 82 was what i wanted in a .50.

I saw a left-handed AR-50 for sale on gun broker the other day if anyone is looking. I think the price was $2,500.

Haha I got a very good deal on it and it is a heavy as shit but very accurate and soft shooting.
