[ARCHIVED THREAD] - So I hopped on the bandwagon today.....

....ordered a BFG-50 from Serbu.

Now to save up for good glass. As a stop-gap, anyone ever heard of using a red dot type optic on the .50 BMG? There's a semi-local range I'm joining that goes out to 600 yards, anything over that will mean a 2+ hour drive. My normal range only goes to 200 yards, so I thought a red dot might suffice for getting started if it'll handle the recoil.

Welcome to the club! As far as red dots go I don't have any experience with one on my 50 but I am pretty sure Eotech makes a Holosight for the 50BMG with a calibrated reticle.

Check the SWFA demo list i saw a 50BMG eotech there .

MrBen has a red dot scope on his Safety Harbor upper, snap shots at 400 yards offhand are easy.

Can't see why one wouldn't work on a BFG, the only drawback would be limiting the range of the rifle.

Impossible! Anything from Mark Serbu is a couple weeks...and worth the wait.

Mark used an Eotech on a BFG50 carbine at Knob Creek... :)

As mentioned above... I have an OKO holosight on my UltraMag50 conversion (4moa red-dot)

I've used cheap BSA red dots on my BOHICA when letting other's shoot it for plinking. It avoids scope bumps. They worked fine for <200yds hitting watermelon size targets.
