I have a scar17 currently.  I have an aimpoint t-1 that stays on it and a nightforce to put on it when I want more glass. I keep seeing SCAR 17 SBRs on Instagram and I am more and more tempted to get another and build one. Anyone run one now?  Any regrets?  I just want short and simple. Maybe a red dot and a vertical grip. Not much of anything else.  Pics are always helpful. Here is a shot of mine:

Damn that aimpoint looks tiny.

It's pretty awesome.  I'll take the ballistic sacrifice for the better handling-- the 3" is a bigger difference that I thought it would be.

and they're just plain cool

I'm not too worried about the lost ballistics. I could reload lighter bullets to get em moving a little faster. I just think this compact package would be awesome. (Not my pic-stolen from @s3fnug on Instagram)

I think a nice 1-6 like w Kahles K16i with handloaded 155gr Amax would be a bad ass package out of a 13" barrel, the picture of the 10"  SCAR 17s is WAY too short for a .308.  I think with a 16" barrel the Nightforce 2.5-10x32 with an offset launching 168-175gr AMAX/FGMM is perfect.  13" = battle rifle, 16" = DMR in my mind.

The only downside to SBR a SCAR17 is it costs more money, since you can always keep a 16" barrel to swap out if you want better ballistics.  I carried my 16" with a suppressor on it last fall and decided it was time to SBR it.  It doesn't save a lot of weight, but getting the suppressor in a little closer made a huge difference.

Here is mine and I'm glad I did it.

You have me so tempted to pull the trigger on the idea after I get myself a Leupold CQBSS.

My issue is that I think I'd like to run a Surefire SOCOM suppressor... but the mini ones are only safe for 16" barrel length.
So I could either stick with factory 16" and get the mini SOCOM 7.62... or get the 13" CQC barrel and use the full length SOCOM 7.62 suppressor.

They'd be similar in length at that point and the 13" CQC would be out on some muzzle velocity, no? Makes me wonder what the difference in noise would be too.

I'm confused about the full-size v/s mini on 13" v/s 16" comment.

There would seem to be three reasons to prefer a longer barrel on a can:
1. Shorter barrel = more heat = more damage to the can. A longer can would seem like it would accumulate heat faster and retain it more than a smaller can.
2. Shorter barrel = less stable bullet, a longer can would need a more stable bullet because it's traveling further through the can, so why not a shorter can?
3. I forgot what I was going to say here... But shorter = better.

I'm assuming Surefire may have said that but why?

Not entirely sure. It's just on their site that the Mini is only good for 16"+ in .308

Have you noticed a big difference in recoil going from the factory muzzle brake to the flash hider?

Slightly off topic but how do I remove the FH on the 13"? does it have a rear lock nut? it doesn't seen to be tooled like a nut and the FH is on super tight.

I took mine off yesterday to install a MAMS on my 13" barrel. I used a ar15 flash hider removal tool, and the TD armorer block to take it off with no problems.

I SBR'ed my SCAR 16 & 17 and couldn't imagine them any other way.

Did you buy the SBR barrel assembly? Or cut the barrels down? I'm not sure which option to go with.

I'm seriously torn between a 13" barrel for my SCAR 7.62, or a 10" 300 blk upper. . . unfortunately, both is not an option at this point.

Factory SBR barrels. I hate having chrome lined barrels cut. I'm always worried about the chrome flaking
