I have an NFA trust and want to form1 an sbs before the rule change in July. So, the question is a semi vs o/u. Can a semi be successfully sbs-ed or just do the o/u. Any info on the semi process and pitfalls would be apreciated.

Which semi are you looking to form 1?

Lots of people are SBS'ing Rem 11's (Browning A5 clones) right now and loving them. I've got two pending, a 12 and 20g, both Rem 11's.

Will look like this, prob a little lighter on the wood, like the 2nd pic.

I have not decided which platform to use. Looking at an inertia driven blow back as opposed to gas blow back. I know that the Benelly m1 is supposed to be inertia. Is the Rem 11 gas operated? That looks awesome.

Semis of all types certainly have been SBSd.

M1, Saiga, VEPR, Versamax, etc.

You're correct that gas operated semis require more effort to run reliably. I think evilblkguns is in Florida and has a lot of experience setting these up. He might be a good resource.

Any reason you're excluding pump guns?

Thanks for the info. I'm not doing a pump this time cause I already own a Serbu shorty.
Really want to make a semi work, I think it would be an awesome shotty.

Gas operated semi autos may need some fine tuning to get them to cycle with a shorter barrel. Inertia guns tend to work pretty well without any tinkering.

Over/Unders also have certain factors to consider. If the barrels aren't properly cut down, you can have issues with the mid-rib separating that holds the barrels together. You may need to do some solder work after cutting. There's also the issue of barrel regulation. Over/Under barrels are regulated for a specific POI at a specific distance and then soldered together. If you cut it down, you may find the POI for each barrel is wildly different.

Overall, it's probably easier to make a semi auto SBS run than to get an O/U SBS that actually shoots well.
