Picked up a used wingmaster for $170 this AM.
Any reason it shouldn't be my first SBS?
I'm thinking parkerize it, 12.5" barrel flush with the tube, walnut buttstock.

Do it. I love my 13.5

Might as well.  I just bought a factory 14" barrel with a fixed modified choke from AIP Tactical to go on my SBS.  I ran it in a shotgun class recently, and it did just as well as the longer barreled guns there.

Mine originally came with a chopped vent-rib barrel. I think I'll now cut that one back to 12".  Should be fun.

Where on the gun - or who to use for engraving?

I recently used Veritas Machining. 9 days there and back, nice work on an AR lower.

Engraving from Orion-Arms has always been first rate too.

- Great pick up.
- No, there is not a single reason it should not be your first SBS.
- You have fine taste. I think a parkerized 870 WM with wood furniture would be fantastic. Look in the "Ridiculous SBS" thread. Although not parkarized, there are some gorgeous stained and un stained walnut stock guns.
- Lastly, enjoy the rabbit hole. SBSs bite hard, and their venom works fast. You will have another sooner than you think...

Edit: Let me help you with those pictures. I think you'll agree your decision is solid. These are all from members on this site:

Depends on your size/build. I had a 14" Speedfeed originally, went to a Hogue 12" that was too short and ended up with a Magpul 13" that was just right.

Right under the ejection port, on the side of the receiver, is a great spot.

I shortened my stock by 1".  (Mine is the slug gun on the counter that Whiskers posted.)

You deserve another pat on the back for that SBS slug gun. Nice work. You don't see very many rifled SBSs.

Is it legal to engrave the barrel, seeing that's the part that's making it an SBS? What if I wanted to sell the shotgun later on? It would have my long ass trust name engraved into the receiver.

1) you can change the name of your trust with an amendment.

2) engraving the barrel is fine

3) to sell, replace the short barrel with a 18"+ barrel

(Don't sell)

I have no preference between those scatterguns. They both look awesome.

Hope you saved the wood. You never know if want to class it up later.

I know GoLoud did some awesome home made work on his, turned out beautifully.

Same here exactly. Speedfeed was too long, Hogue was too short but the Magpul was just right. I'm 6' 180 lbs.
