In this thread we discuss all things related to the procurement, storage and ownership of these items.

Reading a recent listing on GB, it raised a couple questions on their ownership.

One uses language like "I am not responsible" and "you are soley responsible for possession of this item". (I'm paraphrasing here)

It got me thinking, I have no clue about these things!

So... what's your expirience with procuring, Storing and general ownership of these items?

Sure...

Until recently, they were hens teeth. Now I know a guy that has plenty enough to play with for a long time, and keep himself happy and entertained on those cold winter nights that are coming. He stores them in a ammo can, so they are easily accessible in case he needs to laugh at something or someone. There is no law or reg that deals with these things that I am aware of, or that anyone has pointed me to, so, to each his own. Some people that sell them are afraid of being held responsible for some douche misusing them, so they say things like that. Oh well, to each his own. GROG

Thanks for the reply.

I am still considering picking up some to screw around with...

I was just amazed by the lack of info on them, high prices (on GB anyway) and when you roll it all up with the hotly contested Smoke Grenade debate it gets a bit cofusing.

Speaking of these... I have a somewhat related question.

Does anyone know the thread pitch the M201 uses?  It looks like about 9/16 - 12 or so, but does anybody actually have the specs?

Yep that's it, 9/16-12. just about all grenades use this size except the current M67 frag and it's M69 trainer which use the M213/M228 fuze which is 5/8 -11. Those cheap fake grenades are also cut 5/8-11 for those fuzes.

I have also asked these same questions, I had posted here on the forums before with no luck. From what little I could find out without going to the BATF is that m201 fuses, smokes and chemical grenades that use them are legal (maybe not, don't quote me) but the ATF has strong armed manufacturers (like ALS) to stop selling to the public. On the m228s, I could not find any legal info on them at all. I do know that the ATF has put in place storage restrictions for these items but it looks like it is for manufacturers, suppliers, and people who have explosive licenses but nothing about private ownership storage. I also have found articles stating that the ATF has arrested people with m228 fuses but it also says these same people committed multiple other crimes, nothing directly saying that the m228 was the reason, just that the ATF found them in their "raid". So who really knows??? I bet the BATF doesn't really know, that is until you write them asking then they will make a decision. I have read other posts about with others asking about questionable items and people wrote the ATF to see if they were illegal or not. the result was that people got different responses, some saying yeah they are legal and some saying no.

Hey big,

Yeah... seems everyone and no one has an answer to this

Your links are very interesting... really enjoyed the read!

I guess the search for answers continues. If nothing else it's interesting since most things are usually catagoried as right or wrong pretty easily from a google search these days
