I just finally picked up my Gemtech 22 can and for some dumb reason, I actually don't have a 22lr gun.  My front runner for the host is probably a Ruger 10/22 since it has tons of room for customization and looks like it would be a fun and accurate rifle.
Any other pistols that I should be looking at as a good host.  If I do rifle/long gun, 10/22 is the winner.
Just need to explore my pistol options

I like 10/22s and own two of them myself, but definitely consider an AR pattern 22 LR such as either a dedicated upper or a S&W M&P 15-22 (don't own a S&W but my buddy does and it is a nice gun).  Ever since I got my AR22 upper assembled a few years ago, my 10/22s haven't seen much love.  An AR type rifle just feels a lot more normal to me after shooting them for 10+ years.  I have a TACCOM barrel in mine and it is a tack driver in addition to being silly lightweight.  Also, if 10/22 customization potential is endless (and it is), then AR22 customization is endlesser

ETA:  Pistol recommendation would have to be S&W M&P 22 or Ruger Mk3/Mk4.

I'm almost in the same boat as OP with my recently acquired GM22.

I have it on a 12.5in TacSol 10/22 right now (and love it) and plan on putting it on my Ruger American Rimfires every once in a while.

But for pistols, my Walther P22 just isn't cutting it. I'm really wanting a 22/45 Lite.

My 22/45 LITE is a Mk3, like this one.  There are plenty of Mk3s in the wild, available for sale.  Assuming OP doesn't have extra chromosomes or a traumatic brain injury, he can easily field strip a Mk3.

On mine, I removed the LCI and the mag safety junk. A Mk2 bushing and I'm off to the races.

I like the suggestions so far.  I didn't really want to got the AR-22 route (I've got several AR platform already and want to branch out a little).
That M&P looks pretty cool with the can and 22/45 seems like a great option as well.
I'll have to see what my lgs have in the coming weeks.

Damn I did not realize until now that Magpul made a non-backpacker X-22 takedown stock.  Decisions, decisions.

I have a Walther P22, Sig Mosquito, Ruger 10/22, Ruger Charger, CZ 452, and Ruger Mark II all threaded for my .22 cans.  All are interchangeable, and a lot of fun to shoot!  Let your wallet be your guide!

I have a handful of hosts (M&P15-22, M&P22 FS, FVSR, 10/22, P22, custom 4.5" AR upper) and easily the most fun is the Savage FVSR bolt action, stupid movie quiet, and very accurate out to 200yd w CCI SV.

I do need to get a MKIV Lite, though.

I've got plenty of hosts:
10/22 Takedown Lite
10/22 Takedown w/Tacsol SBX
10/22 stainless w/threaded barrel
MK IV 22/45 Lite (still waiting recall fix)
GSG Firefly (Sig Mosquito rebranded)

But, sadly, no suppressors currently. Have 4 in jail and really hoping its not a full year wait on them.

22 45 lite has tons of support in after market accessories and are fun to shoot.
Don't underestimate the MP 15-22 because it is awesomely light.  Quiet with a suppressor and can be TD for your backpack too.

I have a G22 as well, it knocks the sound on the handguns down (Walther p22 and 22/45) so that you dont need ears and is fun to shoot with them. It makes the 10/22 crazy quiet with gemtech subs and a blast to shoot. Tac sol 22 upper is the quietest thing we have shot with it, literally sounds like a B.B. gun.

I would say go grab a 10/22. Lots of fun to upgrade them and really nice combo with the G22

I have a GM22.

It is by far the quietest on a savage bolt action.

On a pistol, FRP is one of the loudest 22 cans I own, and IMO although fine on a pistol, really shines on a bolt rifle, as I find it quieter than my Mask on the same bolt gun.

Semi .22 LR rifles are fun, but you got to work to quiet the action.

I have:

Savage FVSR
Ruger American in .17HMR
M&P 15-22
M&P 22 Compact
HK MP5

I'd suggest any of them, all great guns.

The Savage FVSR is my absolute favorite though, it puts a smile on my face every single time.  Get a bolt action if you can.
