H.R. 367
House Bill S.59 Senate Bill You can track all activity on the respective bills from these pages, not just co-sponsors. The issue I see is the Senate, yes while the Repubs hold a small majority it only has seven co-sponsors so far. I did received a detailed response from my Congressman but crickets from my two left wing nutjob Senators (my opinion;). We know firearm things can move quickly through this Congress i.e. the bill to overturn Big Ears firearm ban on Soc Sec recipients, I fully agree that bill absolutely needed to be done but the old familiar chant still rings true, I WANT MY HPA! |

View Quote That's not just your opinion. Both are anti-2A. As they would say, they favor "reasonable" restrictions on gun ownership. Neither would ever support the HPA. I hate to be the nay-sayer here but, this is likely to die in the Senate. All they need is a couple leftist Republicans to kill any chance of passing. If they think it might pass the Dems WILL filibuster. |

So got this in the email on Tuesday... Don Young is a stupid level of senior but likely nearing the end of his term(due is like 90).
Dear Mr. FSJDW2, Thank you for contacting me regarding H.R. 367, the Hearing Protection Act of 2017. I appreciate you taking the time to share your concerns with me. On January 9, 2017, Representative Jeff Duncan (R-SC) introduced H.R. 367 to remove suppressors from regulations enforced by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). Current regulations mandated by the National Firearms Act of 1934 require potential buyers of suppressors to apply for a permit from the ATF, pay $200, and pass a separate ATF background check that can take months to complete. H.R. 367 would streamline the process by removing the application, tax, and simply require buyers to pass the same National Criminal Instant Background Check (NICS) that gun purchasers do. Suppressors are currently legal to use while hunting or for private ownership in a majority of states. Despite misconceptions perpetuated by movies or anti-gun groups, no suppressor can ever make gunfire completely silent. The device simply muffles a firearm by trapping the expanding gasses at the muzzle, which allows them to slowly cool. Suppressors are no different than earplugs, both items reduce noise by 20-35 decibels thereby protecting individuals' ears from prolonged high decibel damage. H.R. 367 was referred to the House Ways and Means Committee, where it is awaiting action. However, please rest assured that will I support this legislation if it comes to the House floor for a vote. Once again, thank you for expressing your views on this issue. If you haven't already, I would encourage you to sign up for my e-newsletter at https://donyoung.house.gov/forms/emailsignup and visit my Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/RepDonYoung. Getting 25% of the House to sign on as a co-sponsor is a really big deal! Few bills get that much support this early.

[#21]
I like stuff like this. It's a lesson for the younger kids who still have hope or just don't know, and it rubs it in the face if those who stubbornly think we can get the government to simply give us our rights back.
That infuriates me to type by the way. The fact that we beg them for our rights. This will die. Scum elitist republicans or filibuster. Take your pic. |
|
[#22]
Not only do we need to do our part to push our Representatives, we need to take the initiative and go a step further...
I made 50 copies of a letter for each Senator/Representative and handed them to friends, like minded coworkers, neighbors, the firehouse, the VFW, etc.. in a stamped, pre-addressed envelope. Had them sign it, put their return address on the envelope and then I mailed it.... Everybody was more than happy to sign the letters... Keep at it folks! |
|
[#23]
Any Democrat support in the Senate? Shouldn't matter in the end, even if they filibuster the GOP can get it done thru reconciliation.
|
|
[#24]
Good work guys! I'm writing them all the time as well, we need the HPA to pass!
|
|
[#25]
The Senate will NOT be as bad as everyone thinks. There are over 50 votes there for the HPA. A filibuster is NOT guaranteed.
There even a few Dems who may vote for it...It will be easy for them to justify when the ATF is testifying in favor of the HPA and the CDC study under Obama showed the most effective form of hearing protection at shooting ranges are SUPPRESSORS. There is too much Pro for this bill to get a filibuster. It is not so hotly contested or controversial enough. The HPA will pass. It is just a matter of how long. |

My reps are worthless. I reached out and contacted all of them and only heard back from one, which was a no.

With, iirc, ten democrap senators from states President Trump won up for reelection in 2018 I don't think the Senate would be that big of a hurdle... But, as another member posted, HPA will most likely be attached to a larger "must pass" bill in House-Senate reconciliation. Once the reconciliation committee votes out a final "omnibus" bill it only needs a simple majority of both houses to pass. Fwiw, I was goose hunting with a member of the Trump Administration a couple of weeks ago and amending the HPA to a larger bill was how he thought it would pass. He thought within the "200 Days" Republican plan. My only question is when the heck does the 200 day count down begin? The clock should have started ticking the morning after the election but the democraps are clogging up the Senate by slow walking every Trump appointee and both the House and Senate seem to be taking a long time to get their legislative acts together, probably because they are shocked President Trump won. The Democratic committee chairs would not let it out for a vote, so the representatives circulated a "Discharge Petition" which once 217 members sign on means it gets a vote no matter what. I could forsee the HPA getting the same treatment with the amount of Co-Sponsors it already has! |

They have their own insurance. They can do insider trading. They make themselves immune to these laws for the most part. That alone should be enough to convey the state of our current situation. Hopefully I'm wrong but again, I love stuff like this. It's teaches younger people exactly the kind of scum we have in government and it runs it in the face of those to stubborn to get it/admit it. The only way things change is by force or threat of force. That's how the gov gets us to comply with unconstitutional stuff now. Threat of force and then escalation of force. That's the only way we will get stuff back. That's why they do badly want to take our guns. It's. It like this is new. It's cyclical. It's happened all throughout history over and over again. Force/threat of force is just about how anything gets done with.....well, humans in general. We are trained to do it from the start. Even as kids. First you ask your kids. Then you yell. Then you threaten. Then you use force. Humans are stubborn. Of course there are always exceptions. Of course. |

But, as another member posted, HPA will most likely be attached to a larger "must pass" bill in House-Senate reconciliation. Once the reconciliation committee votes out a final "omnibus" bill it only needs a simple majority of both houses to pass. JPK View Quote |

I agree, the HPA will not pass as a stand-alone bill. It has to be attached to a must pass bill. View Quote Thank God, we have been waiting weeks to hear your assessment on the HPA! That's it floks, we are done here (drops the mic). Just playing around. I suspect it will go down that way, but I think it can also pass as a stand alone as well. We will see. |

I think it would get through the Senate, but the HPA would be far down the line of priorities for the Republican leadership in either chamber of Comgress to bring to the floor in stand alone form.... but easy to attach to a bigger, higher priority bill. I do like the idea of a Discharge Petition if it isn't passed sooner rather than later. JPK |

Do they have 60 senate votes committed? The house would be the easier part. The senate is a liberal gauntlet with people like RINO John McCain.
I hope for the best but even the senate gop is a house divided. The senate DNC is a veritable a communist iron curtain. The NRA could be argued to have been a deciding factor in the Trump victory. The DNC knows it and I would expect their scorched earth policy to extend to anything related to NRA interest. It doesnt help the DNC to give the gun owners a reason to be happy with the GOP. The DNC is about strategic base survival- they are always about their political bottom line. |

Read this Griffin. I live in the swamp, and the HPA is both common knowledge and well thought of (at least the concept of removing suppressors from NFA jurisdiction) by every politico I have spoken too.
Reconciliation is your friend, only 50 votes needed in the Senate, and no bebate. Quoted:
I contacted both of my Senators. All four of Arkansas' Representatives are co-sponsors.
The response i received from Tom Cotton: "Thank you for contacting me about the Hearing Protection Act. It’s good to hear from you, as always. Earlier this Congress, Senator Mike Crapo (R-ID) introduced the Hearing Protection Act of 2017 (S. 59). As you know, this legislation would remove suppressors from regulations established under the National Firearms Act. This bill was referred to the Senate Committee on Finance, where it awaits further consideration. Should this legislation come to the Senate floor for a vote, I will keep your views in mind. I support a citizen's right to bear arms, a right enshrined in the Second Amendment of our Constitution. As a combat veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan, my soldiers and I kept our rifles and guns within arms' reach because of a fundamental truth: at critical moments, your life depends on being armed and ready to defend yourself. And I know our founders gave all law-abiding citizens the same rights here at home. As a hunter, gun owner, and NRA member, I understand how central the outdoorsman way of life is to Arkansas's culture and tradition. Please rest assured that I will staunchly defend your Second Amendment rights. Nor do I believe that the Second Amendment and gun ownership contributes to crime. On the contrary, many studies—and plain common sense—demonstrate that widespread gun ownership by law-abiding citizens and concealed carry by citizens reduce crime rates. Similarly, long and sad experience shows that more gun control does not reduce crime. Federal law should thus not infringe on the rights of law-abiding citizens, while it also ensures that criminals and the dangerously mentally ill do not obtain firearms. I am truly honored to serve as your Senator; please know that your interests and affairs have my unceasing attention. Always feel free to call my office at (202) 224-2353 or visit www.cotton.senate.gov." |
