Griffin Optimus blast baffle. Exactly 1080 rounds. 700 5.56  and 380 6.5 Creedmoor.
I cleaned it to get a better idea of erosion.

Thanks for those pics, I have an Optimus coming up for parole soon and was wondering how others' cans are doing.  How do the distal baffles look after ~1k rounds?  Any way we could get some good, focused pics of those baffles?

Unless there was a bunch of rimfire use on that can, seems like a lot of build up. We've been told that there is no need to clean a centerfire rifle can because it's like a self-cleaning oven. Obviously 50k is a ton of rounds but it had to build up to that point and it looks like it's almost obstructing the bore.

My Trek manual says no cleaning but I wonder if its design dependant.  Seeing a high round Noveske KX3 cut open looked just like that picture above.

I am gonna weigh my cans after a while, and maybe do the dip if they gain a lot of mass.  Gonna be a while to get 10k rounds through the Trek though.

Surge 762 with 105 rounds of 5.56 out of a 16" barrel with flash hider.  I think it is going to be a LONG time before I see much erosion going on.  On a related note, after finally getting to shoot it today I must say this thing is stupid quiet

Thanks!  Oddly enough, that was taken with my phone.  It's a Samsung Galaxy, either a 5 or a 6 I think.  I set it on 16 MP and took my time getting a good one with good focus.  All subsequent pics will be that good hopefully.

It's a screenshot from a Knight's promo video.  I doubt they ever shot rimfire through it.

There are suppressor manufacturers who say that centrefire calibre suppressors do not accumulate any buildup and then there are companies who say they do.

We fall in the latter category.

However there are of course variables that effect on the weight buildup and flash / sound suppression performance

- Suppressor design
- Calibre
- Powder used
- Barrel length
- How many rounds per month / year for example
- Rate of fire ( ie. bolt action vs a semi / select fire weapon )

So should someone be cleaning their centrefire calibre suppressor?, it really depends on the answers to the above points.

Best Regards!

3K rounds, F1 can, approximately 2500 rounds mounted on 10.5" SBR with muzzle brake, and 500 rounds on 7.5" SBR with muzzle brake, all 5.56.. You can see a tiny bit of erosion starting on the holes in a few of the freeze plugs.

since this can is user serviceable I plan to update the thread from time to time but I'm not keeping accurate round count, just approximation since this one will be moved between several different rifles.

Couple more pics.

Saker 762, 120 rounds 556 from a 7.5" PWS Diablo with flash hider and 90 rounds 300 blk subs.  It's looking like I could shoot this can till the world ends and not have any erosion.  I figured I'd see at least a discoloration after the 7.5", but no dice....

Surefire 556 SOCOM Mini Monster.  500 rounds 11.5", 240 rounds 10.3".  Both flash hider.  So far all my Surefires are holding up well.  I'll get a pic up of my 762-SOCOM soon.

Since I was moving my photobucket pics here are a few of mine.

SWR Trident9 with aftermarket baffles, can be taken apart. Approximately  1k 9mm since re-core. About 12k on the tube.

Specwar 556k   used on a 10.5 5.56 about 700 rounds. One full beta c mag on auto.

Saker 762    Used on everything it is rated for. About 5k. Several beta c mag on auto.
I dont see how it will ever wear out. I bought 2 more when they were discontinued I like it so much.

Liberty Mystic x about 1k mostly 12" 7.62x39 and 8" 300 Blackout. The shiny area is still square just clean.
It is really long so it pretty much stays on rifles.

And my oldest AAC 762 SD 18T    about 10k of mixed 5.56 and 7.62  most from a HK G3 on auto and about 200 of 270 win. It has wear but not bad.
I need to send it in to get it re-cored and switched to 51t some day now that I have ASR mounts on everything but one ak.

My Obsidian45, Revolution9, and 22 suppressors have no wear and get cleaned when needed.

I think it's more impressive makingvtgat many rounds without a baffle strike. The odds of a bad round out of 50,000 must be pretty high.

I really thought about getting the 22 end cap but I'm not sure if it will make a noticeable difference or not?
the performance on my 11.5" is pretty astounding.. I'd like to hear from someone that has the end cap and what they think.

How does the Alpha compare to your Recce 5? My understanding is the 22 endcap makes the Alpha a Recce 5

I literally just bought an Optimus today, I would love to see your progression and opinions. I will be using it as a Swiss Army Knife can, all but rimfire mostly, and quite possibly 9mm and 6.5C heavily.

I am going to be gitting a 3-lug mounting system too.

I remember Rob Silvers saying that M4-2000s fill up similarly between 30,000 and 50,000 rounds on 10.5” rifles. I imagine it’s as much a consequence of hard use on short barrels as baffle surface area.
