I am considering getting a 16" rifle length barrel (18" rifle, chop + thread to 16", drill .09 gas port)just because in always wanted one. Contemplating whether in really need a Govnah on it or if back pressure will be minimal.

Did you know we already have 16" Rifle gas barrels....with and without Govnah's?
We did these upon request from 3 gun competition shooters but I've suppressed some and wow are they smooth.

The shorter the gas tube the higher the port pressure and the longer the
pressure is applied before the bullet exits the muzzle.

That is correct.
Above graph is from here:
http://www.sadefensejournal.com/wp/?p=1093&pageThose
values were taken 1/2" from the muzzle which isn't where the gas port
is so for this discussion, so we will interpolate the pressures from
that graph:
Carbine - Gas port is about 7" from the chamber so it is about 17Kpsi
Midlength - gas port is about 9" away so about 13K psi.
Rifle - about 13" away so about 9Kpsi
All that said, I typically see about a 20 thousandths spread/difference between the optimal unsuppressed port size and suppressed and that does not change whether I'm talking about carbine, mid or rifle gas.
You can read the port data testing results we did for the 16" Rifle gas here:
http://micromoa.com/16-17.3-rifle-gas-competition-setup/So the configuration that used the smallest port (Boomfab Titanium BCG and JPSCS) was .082 unsuppressed.....suppressed worked out to be .063.
While the full weight M16 BCG and standard power (white Sprinco) and standard carbine buffer was .093 but in my testing suppressed still was .063 which is a 30 thousandths spread...Of course can all change depending on your exact configuration.
I was using a 556 Saker in my testing.
Contrast this with say a 10.3" MK18. Crane spec port size is .070. We find the optimal suppressed port size to be .049.....same 20 thousandths spread. BTW, in case you are wondering there is no .050 drill bit. .049 is a metric 1.25mm bit.
All these numbers aside, while the spreads may be the same, the feel is totally different. Many comment on how smooth there MK18 is when suppressed with the Govnah but a 16" Rifle gas is even smoother. I think one of smoothest suppressed 556 setups I've experienced.
Of course long and unwieldly but I had a lot of fun ringing steel at 250 yards with a bipod and big scope.
