I have an AEM5 in jail now, and I was thinking it could be cool to run a setup like that.

I don't know what that thing in front of the gas block is, but you could probably make a custom collar that just butts up against it.

Low blow back cans like AE cans would be great for AKs that suffer from horrible gas leakage.

Maybe I could build my own AK and use a barrel assembly like this one:

Good thread. The AEM5 is still the best-sounding suppressor in 5.56 I have encountered. I always get questions on the line as to what brand it is and why it is so quiet.

Any suggestions on a fitted cover to reduce mirage?

I run a cole tac cover(the one with the high heat liner and outer python wrap) and really like it.  I shoot mine more precision based so it doesnt get to hot.

If your gonna get the can really hot, look into the rifles only HAD.  I had one and its built to take some heat(overkill for what i was shooting)  so i sold it and got the cole tac.  I also prefer the straps on the cole tac vs the string on the HAD, but they both work great

I ran a high heat cole tac on my rugged surge through a Pat MacNamara carbine course with nothing more than a little discoloration. I believe the cover will stand up to any reasonable rate of aimed fire. Won't take a spendex waste of ammo but melting it will probably take more money in ammo than the cover cost in the first place.

Thanks, will look at that one. Seems reasonably priced and I do not flog this rifle/suppressor. Just need to reduce mirage.

Fun. AK plus the AEM's tiny bore size....I'd be extra careful everything lines up. IIRC the AEM5 bore is something like .27 while the SF SOCOM is closer to .3, for example.

Finally got to put a sufficient amount of rounds through mine. Severely over gassed, causing the trigger to get fouled up and failing to reset. Adjustable gas block is on the way.

No. Just tighten it 5-10 lb/ft. The way the tines are angled prevent it from loosening.

Do realize by using the SE Vortex you will etch a characteristic "X" pattern im the first baffle". I have heard that SE muzzle devices will actually void the lifetime warranty of AE cans.

Food for thought.

I'm working on getting some adapters made for commonly available tubes for the Form 1 community to fit the Mk12 pattern.   I'm trying to get in touch with site staff to see how I can pitch them here but no luck yet.  It's one of those things where a minimum order paid in full up front gets a decent price where as one at a time is more than two tax stamps

So I heard back from staff. Because I'm not a dealer and the manufacturer, while a team member, is not a dealer(he wouldn't be with his type of business), a group buy is prohibited.  All I needed was 10-20 items spoken and paid for to make the project happen.  The only way it goes now is if I buy all 10-20 up front and sell them myself in the EE, which would raise the cost to more that most folks would want to pay.  If I ever do it I'll update you guys but for now there will be no Form 1 adapter for the Mk12 platform to replicate the 12th/AEM5.   Sorry.

My COST with not a cent of markup is $98.75 each for an order of 20 and $170.00 each for an order of 10.  17-4PH and solution blackened.   I was looking at 2-3 for myself.  I've posted in 2 forums that have liberal sales policies and 2 relevant FB pages.   One guy basically accused me of fraud because there was prepayment required and no set date for delivery.  I was quoted 4-6 weeks depending on the finisher.

So, this would be for SPR profile barrels using AEM5 / Ops Inc 12th model mounts? Or M4 profile barrels and MBS mounts?

Intended for SPR profile barrels.  I think adapters are available to adapt the M4 setup to the SPR setup as far as suppressor mounting goes.

I was not aware of this.
Thanks for the heads up.
I was hoping to get around the insane concussion when I'm not running a can.
I have the AEMB on my MK12Mod0 clone and it's loud as hell for shooters next to me without the can.

I suppose I'll have to get the brake because I definitely don't want to void the warranty or ruin the first baffle.

AE does make a flash hider that's A1 style (tines all around). That would cut down on the concussion a bit when shooting without the can.

Anyone have photos of how the older models (3rd model specifically) mount?  I know they reflex over the barrel, back about 4".  But I've heard they had some kind of split collar that clamped on back there, instead of the more modern single piece?  Were they ever on skinny barrels?  I can't seem to find any images of it.  Did they just screw on the 1/2x28 threads on the muzzle end? Or did they have a special flashhider like the SPR?

It doesn't help that Photobucket sucks donkey, and most of the images earlier in the thread are gone.

Not a AEM5, but an Ops Inc. 30cal on a Remington 700. Love it, great hunting rifle and although it isn't a lightweight you won't hear me complain.
I use a shop that is local to me, Cross Canyon Arms for barrel work. They have done Allen Engineering, Surefire, AAC barrel profiling and fixed a barrel that had been timed bad from a previous smith.

Yup, but a custom collar will be needed. Also, you will need a special shim in order to time the brake on the small shoulder on the factory barrel.

It is a sweet setup.
