I'm new to the suppressor game and was wondering what are some options for a can on a 7.5" sbr. I'm hearing some cans don't have a warranty for shorter length barrels. I'm looking for one that will work with my sbr and also my 16" DD. I've heard the Grunt and Mini Grunt from Innovative Arms would work but not sure about any others

Only can I know of that will warranty use on a 5.56 shorter than 10" is Huntertown Arms. The explicitly warranty anything but stupid, and are designed to be user serviceable. Heavy, but not expensive. Biggest risk on a barrel that short is early erosion and baffle strikes from unstabilized rounds.

I hear what your saying here, but I'm going to recommend a aac m2000 or a yhm phantom in SS. I'd get the YHM if I knew I was going to use it on a 7.5in they are really strong.
Well OPSinc might be a good choice as well.
The fact that you can take a can apart is cool for pistols and other low pressure stuff. The big boys in the game all weld their high power stuff for a reason, those cans blow up.

this sure gets asked a lot,
a search will get you good research,

Thunderbeast
huntertown arms
Ops Inc

someone mentioned the silencerco specwar, but i havent researched it

others have been used, just dont expect a warranty

from a post that i marked
from AAC  - The 762-SDN-6 is covered on 6.8 barrels as short as 7.5”. It is important that you check for stability of the rounds you plan of using before installing the silencer on a barrel this short. If you do not experience any key holing, or jacket separation, with the rounds you plan on using, you are good to go.

I believe the guys at ADCO run Ops cans on 7.5s with good results.

Thats why I added Ops inc to my list earlier what he needs is to not worry about a warranty and buy a can that is way over built.
One more thing, make sure its a QD can and run a brake on the gun so that the $80 brake takes the main blast.

The biggest question in what is the twist rate of your barrel?

There was a local PD that bought some DPMS rifles with the 7.5" barrels for suppressor use.

Big problems..  DPMS uses a 1/9 twist on their barrels even the 7.5"

HTA used to say no barrel minimum but I'm pretty sure they state a 11.5" minimum now.

Saker perhaps? Call silencer CO about it. They use a stronger material than inconel.

When I was looking for a rifle can, I emailed AAC and was told that the 7.63 SDN6 was rated for 7.5.

For 7.5" 556?. I'll be picking mine up from jail soon. Have a 10.5" 556 and 8.2" 300blk.  I miss a 7.5" 556 upper...if AAC backs running an sdn6 on that short a bbl I may have to put together another 7.5"

If you guys insist on running a 7.5 as a suppressor host, why not select a more appropriate caliber for the application, such as 300 BLK or 9mm?  With those calibers, a 7.5 inch barrel will actually give you a chance to realize their ballistic potential.  A 7.5 inch 5.56 carbine, on the other hand, has little useful application, except for perhaps very loud and annoying blasting, and fails to make much use of the 5.56's ballistic potential.  So why try to "suppress" the only arguable merit of a 7.5 inch 5.56 carbine (being loud and annoying), all while risking premature erosion to your $700-1200 sound suppressor investment?

I didn't see that when I checked their website before posting, but as always I could be wrong.

THIS^^^  A 7.5 in .22 would however be an excellent idea!

You are evidently in a different boat than the OP, who is "new to the suppressor game."  True, a person can do with his money whatever he likes, but for someone like the OP who is looking to break into the suppressor game with only one can, he would be best advised to tailor his host choice toward a more sensible option that will increase the longevity of his one and only suppressor and provide a more useful ballistic profile.

OP, I suggest that you scrap the idea of using your 7.5 inch 5.56 (for the reasons I already mentioned), and instead get a short (7-9 inch) 300 Blackout upper.  For the silencer, and considering you want dual use on your 16 inch 5.56, I suggest one of the following:

(1) AAC 7.62SDN-6
(2) SWR SpecWar 7.62
(3) SilencerCo Saker 7.62 (forthcoming)

Ugh. I was going to be buying a Saker in the very near future, now you've gone and talked me into a 7.5" upper.
