Hey I`m just trying to change the subject.
Link Posted: 10/24/2001 10:28:34 AM EST
They both suck.

A Daisy Red Ryder is the ultimate assault weapon. Everyone knows that.
Link Posted: 10/24/2001 10:30:28 AM EST
The only way to stop this kind of thing is to own, shoot and enjoy both!

'nuff said?

Should there be a - between the k and the 4?
Link Posted: 10/24/2001 10:39:28 AM EST
I prefer Ford, the vehicle, not the President.

Both are fine rifles, each with good/bad points.

BTW, cmymud, what car is that in your signature pic?
Link Posted: 10/24/2001 11:00:35 AM EST
Looks like a Hyundai Tiburon

I think 9mm is better.

No way....they are WAY to dangerous to operate. You'll put your eye out.

Urban/Suburban/Entry- AR15 - Accuracy Accuracy Accuracy- And as reliable as hell when properly maintained.

Rural (Where the gun might get unusually clogged with mud) - AK

Everybody knows that the AR15 is the finest weapon ever devised. The AK series is a neanderthalic device suitable for neanderthals. (no offense neanderthal)

How can you say that!?! The AK series is the most widely used, thus successful rifle ever devised. ARs are for Marys! Thats right, I said it! MARYs.

If you carry one on the right and the other on the left, there will be no discussion. My 2 cents.

I have one of each. I never have to decide which is better. There's no comparison.(AR hands down)
OK. Now here it comes..."Only ONE of each!!!"

cmymud, when did you become such a trouble maker.

The only thing I hate about an AK 47, is having one 4 or 5 points to my left. I ALWAYS get tagged by brass.

What's great is having someone not familiar with an AK 47 getting hit by brass and wondering "where the F__K is this comming from?!?"

Link Posted: 10/24/2001 2:44:50 PM EST
Only accurate rifles are interesting. Not my quote but I believe it.

With that, the AR15 wins hands down.

I always respected the .223 cartridge but when handed an A1 in basic training, my first question was "where's the scope?". I couldn't believe they expected me to shoot a 350 yard pop-up with a freaking aperture and post iron sight.

Well, I had grown up with firearms and practiced daily by keeping starling populations in check. I managed to kill one at 90 yards with an iron-sighted pellet rifle. Something 6 times larger at 4 times the distance shouldn't be a problem. I never missed a 350. It was those ill-maintained, shot-out 25 yarders that didn't want to fall.

Later in my Army career, I had a chance to shoot an AK on an Army range. It was much cruder and the only reason I got some of the 300+ shots was due to the volume of sand the short-falling bullet would kick up and trigger the hit.

They might be reliable but the first shot isn't reliably on target.

I was just trying to get everybodys mind off that other crap. It worked. Just for the record
I don`t have a AK yet but its on the list.

Does a SAR con`t
Link Posted: 10/24/2001 2:52:52 PM EST
I guess the SAR can count as one. Barely though.
Link Posted: 10/24/2001 3:10:39 PM EST
Never had an AK, don't want one. The AR is hands down winner, more versatile, its the one go you with if you want to win. After all there is no guarantee your going to get someone inside of 100 yards, if they've got an AR and your AK'd, all he would have to do is set back at 300 or 400 yds and turn your punkin into soup!

I bought a brass catcher for my AR as I got tired of getting dirty looks from people three benches down. Got my wife in the face one time and that hurt me worse than it did her. My SKS ejects shells straight up into the rafters above the benches.

"How can you say that!?! The AK series is the most widely used, thus successful rifle ever devised. ARs are for Marys! Thats right, I said it! MARYs."

I guess this "Mary" will be tagging an AK from 600+ yards away.

If AR's are for Marys, AK's are for Nancys.

I have much more fun with AK, ammo is cheaper (7.62x39 $80 per K). Pound for pound I'd say AK takes the prize, but I still love mt AR's to death. Of all the K's of rounds through my set of AK's, I've had 3 jams(they weren't serious jams either). They are both extremely fine instruments of war...and fun
Link Posted: 10/29/2001 9:14:42 PM EST
Both have their good and bad points. It's just a matter of using the right tool for the right job. Just buy at least one of each and be ready for the call to duty. Our duty to protect our wives and our children, our families, our homes, our United States of America.

Well lets see , nice clean firing range - AR15 . Dusty dirty desert (ala Desert Storm ) AK47 without a doubt . OK an AR does make an excellent tent stake in a sand storm !

P.S. Hey cmymud , Lantras rule !

My M-16 never jammed in Desert Storm or on my numerous visits to the N.T.C.(Mojave shit-hole).
I just kept dumping C.L.P.in it and it never failed.
M-16s jamming in the sand is a myth.
I own a real Russian AK and I'd feel safer clubbing my enemies with it.

AR15/M16

AR lower is the most versatile lower receiver on the planet.
You can mount different stocks, sights and uppers (suppressors, too).
You can change the caliber, for God's sake!
From .22 all the way up to .50.
Dependable as hell.
I've used M16s in desert, jungle and arctic enviroments without ever a problem. AND no need for extensive maintainance.

AK47

Dependable.
Inaccurate.
Poor ergonomics.
Stamped sheet-metal.

Myth: "used by armies around the world"
Fact: Not used by the "civilized" world.

Myth: "used by SEALs and SF"
Fact: Show me a SpecOp unit that doesn't prefer M4 or HK.

It's a silly discussion.

well you can just call me Mary Nancy then.

It has all been said, both are great design that have stood the test of time. But the accuracy nod obviously goes to the AR15 and because of this I rate is as better at medium and long range. (How sure could you hit a half exposed man at 200 yards with an AK?)
Cheap AK ammo is hardly condusive to top accuracy, but if you just want to go out blasting (we all need this from time to time, right?) the AK gets the nod. I live in the desert and have never had either fail. But the AK kicks up a bigger (more satisfying?) dust blast than the AR15. Yep, you need them both. Although lately I have switched to the FAL as it does everything well.... Still love my AR15's.

Sorry pottsy but it says alot when you have to 'dump a lot of CLP in it ' my experience was way different . When we were in the rear area the only time our M16s came out were when brass were in the area otherwise back in the bunk it went . The AK74s we 'liberated' would work no matter how we abused them .
