In theory. If the AK47 is your go to rifle. Understanding that parts will not be had via the internet. What would you choose? A milled or stamped AK? Which one?

If I was going to have another AK it would be a SLR-107, whichever model has the polymer folder. I have almost bought one a couple of times but AR's have treated me better than AK's and I can't bring myself to buy a $1,000 AK47.

My requirements are simply for a stamped receiver gun. Preferably with some kind of aperture sight, a Hogue pistol grip and functional accuracy. Decent finish is also appreciated.
I prefer the Zastava PAP line of what is available at the moment. I would get one but I want to be able to put some magpul furniture on one and currently only the stock is available for PAPs. Hopefully that will change. |

well...you can't make a milled AK out of a shovel head so....I'm going with stamped.
|
|
Stamped, lighter weight. Most milled receivers are pretty but I spend more time carrying & shouldering one than looking at it.

A proud WASR owner here. Couldn't beat the price I paid for it and it goes bang every time I pull the trigger. Accuracy sucks - way greater than minute of zombie - but ask me if I really care.

Stamped underfolder, I don't know why but that's what came to mind first

I have a SLR106 and its fine but I don't like that Arsenal puts a less-than desirable paint on it that comes off way too easy for what you pay for the gun, and considering a gunkote final finish would be easy.
But having just picked up a WASR-10 last week for substantially less money than an Arsenal I'm very happy with it. |

Stamped is lighter and there's no significant difference in durability.

Wow!!!!!!!!!!! What's the finish on that thing??? Thanks. The finish is just old fashioned commie style enamel paint over parkerizing. It's the flawless machining that Arsenal did that makes it look so good. |

My go-to AK is a Bulgarian SSR-85 (stamped). http://s20.postimg.org/ddcy6at4t/SSR_85_036.jpg View Quote ahh the fun and familiar fireplace photo ! love it. I would take my big AK the VEPR or the little ak-74 bulgy |

I have a Romanian SAR. It's an OK gun and runs 100% but has the crappy sights. Just bought a CMMG Mutant in 7.62 x 39 (I know, not a true AK) but boy is that a great gun so far.

Underfolder m70ab2
Or any underfolder just because they're so easy to conceal |

My SLR-107 was my primary rifle until I got a Tavor. Now the SLR is waiting for a new gas tube, Aimpoint and side mount. Here is how I had it for the last year http://<a href=http://i1071.photobucket.com/albums/u510/davegibbs45/5B11C617-CC57-44CB-8907-7C3DC6E18ED5.jpg</a>" /> I think the 107 is the gold standard of AKs and I've owned 8 total aaK pattern rifles over the last 10 years. Obligatory Tavor pic you just can't beat this little guy with a can: http://<a href=http://i1071.photobucket.com/albums/u510/davegibbs45/ACACC6FC-CA58-42EC-9BA9-6DBD51C710C7.jpg</a>" /> View Quote I have really been thinking hard about getting a tavor to suppress...it just makes sense. I've almost done an SBR a couple times but something that compact while still having a "full" length barrel just makes more sense to me. |

For the cost of one milled, you could potentially get two stamped. I'd roll stamped, they're lighter. I think having the milled makes some folks feel better because it is a more rigid receiver, but let's be honest here, it's not like we're constantly seeing people smashing stamped AK receivers. I'd buy the two stamped WASR 10's and call it good. I hate to say it because the Russian AK's are beautiful, but the one WASR I owned shot better than my SGL21-61, the WASR was more accurate.
|
|
If it's super accurate, don't mess with the barrel/crown. It's in a sweet spot.
My fav ak's are my saiga conversions. Russian goodness with some modern stuff. I have a 5.56 saiga that has an AR magwell adapter, pretty cool. |

I would consider one of the SLR-107CRs with the barrel cut to 12.5", though. |
|
|
My final choice of AK would be an aks-74u clone, but since 5.45 is a suboptimal cartridge and there are limited loads available to match 5.56, I would have to choose no AK.
