From JUST the viewpoint of cleaning,

An AR pistol shouldn't be any different than cleaning a regular AR (or did you mean piston not pistol?)

As for ease of cleaning they are just different...with a DI you are going to get a lot more fouling in the receiver but it cleans easily enough.

AK's are very easy to clean however.

All in all it's about learning what you decide to buy and cleaning and maintaining accordingly.

AK or Gas Piston AR.  Swipe n wipe. Bore snake or patch on rod down the pipe. . The DI AR's require a tad more time, messing with the bbl extension / lug area.
Unless you're anal. Then 1 rifle can be an all day job. I've watched guys bust out a tooth brush and q-tips , going to town on the bolt and carrier like they ran 1-2K through it. If they shot 100 rds it was a lot.
