Does anyone know of a company that will do a Rockwell hardness test on a firearm? There are a few testing companies around me but they won't touch a gun.

Any medium size or larger machine shop or any heat treating shop will have a Rockwell tester.  What are you specifically trying to determine?  You might be up against company policies of no firearms on company property no matter where you go.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I picked up an early M1 Garand with correct early parts from a widow and the receiver looks like it may have either been in a fire or just a very salty environment. Her husband (the previous owner) was in the Navy during WWII on ship in the Pacific, so that may explain that. I just want to make sure it's shootable or it'll be regulated to the mantel.
