Is there a process or solution to polish steel pistol frames or slides?

I to refinish my 1950 something Romanian Tokarev and I'm wanting to do a rust bluing on the frame and basically two tone it.

If so, is it something I can do at home and would the solution be around the same price as bluing?

ETA: I know that the frame isn't stainless. I just wanted to know that if I get the slide highly polished is there a finish to protect the metal?

renaissance wax should do fine.  Or you could get some Eastwood Diamond Clear and spray it first.

Or you could spray with clear coat and be done with it.
