I'm thinking of having my AR cerakoted. I have a little painting experience. But not sure I want to risk messing up with cerekot as I've read it's not the easiest thing to remove if I do mess up.

I know there are other options as well. Rattle can and duracote to name a couple. I just want to explore the best option first.

What are some reputable shops I could have do this?
(I'm in central Illinois and central Ohio regularly, but could be shipped)

Also, what is a decent price range?
(Would be having the stock, upper, lower, hand guard, and flash hider one color. And everything else external, including barrel done in another.)

Any other advice or things to think about with this endeavor is appreciated too.

To have an entire ar15 done around my parts would be around $700ish. That's with you doing the disassembly/assembly. Now there are only a few shops in my area that Cerakote so take that with a grain of salt.
That number was from a couple years ago, that's why I have done all of my own.

$700 for an AR15..holy piss..what a rip off

---------------------

There are a couple online places that range from $200-300 for a complete AR.

I was about to make my own thread asking for recommendations about cerakote applicators, so I cannot recommend any.. :(

Do you have any idea the amount of time that goes into doing a full, and complete AR coating job? Especially with a camo pattern or multiple colors/masking?

Regardless of the time involved, all of the other applicators I have looked at, charge a lot less than $700 for a complete AR in a single color.  Multiple colors are not that much more and camo does not even seem to reach the $700 mark.  So that leads me to believe $700 is/was crazy..

Ah, didn't read that it was single color... yeah, that's high pretty high unless you had optics and a ton of accessories with it.

Lowest I've found online is about $450 for 2 colors.

Figure I'll do whatever I decide to do myself.

There are definitely cheaper options in the area of $350ish. Just takes a little looking!

I used this guy for a few when I lived in Maryland. Just him and his wife, he does good work and used to be a police armorer before going on his own. They're good people and his prices are near unbeatable. Turn around can be a little slow though.

I would recommend looking into KG Gunkote as well, from KG Industries.  I personalty prefer it over Cerakote.

A few of my older projects.

I need to preface this by saying that I do NOT like white guns, but something about that Noveske is hot. The subtle stuff like the red gas block under the white handguard, and the matching bits on the pmag is really nice man.

I know it's a bit of an old thread but I just sent a lower off to MSG Limited in Ohio. I found him on ebay. Does lowers for 34 shipped with plenty of good feedback although communication could be a little better. Mine just got to him yesterday so I'm hoping it'll be back in my hand early next week if I'm lucky! Has anybody else used him?

That's what I thought. I haven't come across anything negative yet so I have high hopes. Have some more work for him to do if it goes smoothly but I figured I'd start off with a cheap lower first. Will report back once I get it back in hand.

Thanks for the replies and info folks. Seeing as my rifle is a frankinbuild, I'll most likely DIY it. As it will never really be worth what I have in it, I might as well learn a new skill along the way.

Besides, after winning a LaRge barrel, I have another build to spend money on. So, saving some green on finishing this one is a must. In fact, I may decide to leave it black. Or rattle can it. Not sure yet.

Thanks again!
