Sponge pattern.

Using a sponge dipped into the paint color of your choice lay down the lighter color first and in wider stripes. Then lay down the darker color through the middle of the light stripes.

Yup, sponge job for sure. Get a "artistic" natural sea sponge from Amazon or Michaels or something. It'll give you a better pattern on the the edges, compared to ripping up something you had under your kitchen sink.

Look around. There's been threads covering sponging.

I was going to give you shit about wanting to turn a Rem 700 into an M-14/M1A1 myself but I restrained myself.

I played around with Krylon Camo colors and a hairnet and got a kind of reptilian scale pattern once. I'll look for the handguard I did and post pics if I find it.

I read through the sticky but I have a few questions.... are painting the stripes a necessity? Would a bathroom sponge work? Also I am thinking of doing a 2 color camo scheme, I am thinking of using either rusty brown primer or krylon flat camo brown.... Put stripes of the brown on the stock, then using some of my left over OD alumahyde on a sponge and sponging in the brown areas and taking some brown paint on a sponge to the od areas... would that work well?
