I'm trying this green because I think it looks pretty cool but I'm usually all about FDE. I'm just trying something new and still on the fence. Could I just spray the Magpul Brownells paint over this Rustolem Army Green and it work out ok or do I need to strip it completely down? Or should I just wait to see how it comes together when I assemble it?

It looks good in this build and that's what I'm going for. The warm light may be making it look worse.

The main question I have is if I can just hit it with brownells aluma hyde magpul FDE directly on top or do I need to strip it completely down?

It's not that bad...I kinda like it.

You could add some other colors to it/tone it down a bit.

I'm always looking for that perfect desert mint, desert verde, etc. color...hard to find.

IMHO, it would be a good color as part of a camo pattern.

I would agree.   You should be able to spray over it,  but I'd give the existing paint at least 2 weeks to cure.

I'm glad I started this thing over and ended up going with Brownells Aluma Hyde II Magpul FDE. I used this on a 9mm SBR I did awhile back.

Yep, good base coat maybe but certainly needs something else...

It's not  too bad. A second color on top would help.

ETA-  I just wanted to cheer you up and show you my first failed paint job. It's fixed now.

Good foundation for maybe a multicamish scheme, but by itself, it's pretty hideous.

I kinda like it...but it would get to me eventually. I'd use it as camo base.

Much better.
The original pic was pretty hideous. Sorry.
