Literally just got back my upper/lower/handguard back from being Cerakoted recently. I went back to the shop that I got it done from after what happened in the pictures and I'm being told that's normal. I only racked the bolt back maybe 5 times and already you can see it's coming off.
That's not normal, is it?

Cerakote will wear.....its a coating.  But it wears better than any other coating out there.  5 manipulations of the charging handle will not rub properly applied and cured Cerakote off.  What you might be seeing is the black from the charging handle coming off.

What has me concerned is the second picture.  That kind of wear leads me to believe that the prep work was not done properly or it was not cured properly.  That kind of wear is indicative of sub par prep work.....like no blasting or improper blasting.  I would be able to tell if I had it in my hand. Hard to tell just from pictures sometimes.

I made sure it wasn't the black coating from the charging handle by wiping the lower down pretty thoroughly.
The second picture is also what had me concerned as well - even if the wear were that bad, shouldn't it not be black underneath?

Improper prep, doesn't look to have been sandblasted.

Someone didn't learn how to properly apply that product, they owe you a refund/recoat/whatever because I've done better work at home.

Those Murs actually require a pretty aggressive sandblasting that most guys aren't used to. Their anodizing is odd. It needs to be prepped better, but even after expect the charging handle wear marks. Thats kind of standard, even through the anodizing.

I would be looking for a refund of some sorts.  Ask how it was prepped.  It is not right.....who did the work?

Top looks like normal wear would, but inside the lower has me baffled.  Where the upper hits the lower I inderstand, but the scratches in "no mans land"are strange. Even with crappy prep, there shouldn't be anything to make those marks.

I would tend to agree.

+2. My KG gun Kote guns are holding up much better than what you show and Cerakote is supposed to be supreme.
