Wife bought me a nerf gun for Christmas and it inspired me to have some fun. 10.5” PSA upper, with 80% lower.  I used a cheap sightmark because I didn’t want to paint anything expensive! Still gotta put a trigger guard on it.  Probably won’t stay like this forever just wanted to have some fun. Might turn it into a stormtrooper blaster at some point in the future.

I didn't want to make a specific thread for this, but I was wondering which of these designs you guys like the most?

I personally really like the Mcmillan stock pattern (middle), but the one downside is I just bought the camo rattle can colors used in the other two and I would need to go get more paint

I decided to do a test run on a shotgun that won't feed right to test out the top pattern and see if I like it or not. I may very well be getting moar paints haha.

Plus being my first rattlecan job I can fuck this up and not be pissed at myself lol

Best thing about rattlecan is it's easily fixed. Just go for it. Light coats... You can always add more

That would look really good with some hulk stencils...off to Google

ETA this would look so cool in a darker color... Maybe laying diagonal across the left side, partially up over the rail or something

So I was actually a bit surprised at how well my first attempt went. Besides a few small specks of paint that bled through the tape, it went really well. I did learn a lot, and as a side note I also discovered a kinda cool color scheme that I hadn't considered before.

I know this is the AR paint thread, but I don't know where else to share it, and the AR is going to be coming now that this trial gun is done

And this was during the final stages, after the base green was down I was adding the black and tan, and it actually looked pretty cool like it was.

Beautiful! Nice work and it loos great.
You're onto something with that bottom pic too IMO. The more I see the more I think large swathes of sharply contrasting colors on these guns are some of the best for actual camouflage and outline breakup.

I agree, I have really been wanting to imitate either the blood diamond paint scheme, or the Black Hawk Down Delta M4

After seeing the bottom pic, I am really leaning towards doing this one. Base of tan, and then hit it with a few black stripes

This is the other design. Base color would be the green with black stripes hit in

Ok I finally got up the nerve to do it. I don't know why but I was just really hesitant to actually rattlecan this budget AR but I just got done with the first coat.

I'm gonna try for the BHD style and see if it comes out halfway decent or if I end up hating it. Either way its painted

Thanks man, I was really worried I was going to fuck it up and hate it.

I only had one minor mistake and it seems to be somewhat fine. I had made sure I flipped the selector when I did the base tan, and only when it was dry from the black stripes did I notice I left the selector and had the dick outline lol. I then had to paint that section again, and got a run and used the towel to wipe it and sure enough, a bunch of linty shit got on the entire left side. So I had to basically wipe it all down, try and de-lint everything and repaint it. So one side has a bunch more paint then the other.

It was PERFECT before that, and I should have just left the dick lol.

I hope when it gets some wear on it, it really starts to look like the BHD Delta gun a bit more. I think that looks the absolute coolest.

I'm not a fan of BCM's tan, but I do like the design of their handguards. I did something similar, blend sand and brown.

I wasn't happy with the finish on this one so I stripped it and sprayed it again last night. Added bonus is I can tell them apart now. I was going for more of a khaki dusty look for the one in the foreground. Turned out better than expected.

I'm pleased with the predominantly field drab colored receiver in the background. I just wanted to be able to tell them apart better. The trick now is to get the uppers to somewhat match.
