Looks like a bag that oranges come in. I'm going to keep my eyes open for interesting patterns the next time I go to the store...

what do you guys use to get the diamond/scale pattern on your gun?  I have looked all over and can only find square hole pattern mesh.

I love how this rifle looks. I saved a pic of a very similar one, I'm tossing around the idea of doing it to my 20"

It is a mesh laundry bag. Although I don't use one now, I was able to dig one up from out of my old seabag and cut it up for painting camo. I am sure the current .mil guys are using a mesh laundry bag for painting SOPMODS when deployed. Look at walmart for one.

Then, use your lightest color as a solid base coat, and lay the mesh over top to apply darker color highlights through the mesh.

My first paint job on a gun ever. I tried to re create guns762's sponge camo. I went over it so many times after my first sponge job the bottom coat of spraypaint is completely covered by sponge prints. Still I like how it turned out and wouldn't have done my first spray without his tutorial. What do you all think?

One thing that left me scratching my head is that I could not tell the difference between magpul FDE and coyote Alumahyde.

Finally got my hunting AR squared away enough to hit it with some Aervoe.
The colors will go well with my hunting locations.
Found a old wire trash can for the diamond/snake skin pattern and some palm fronds from my frontyard palm tree to break up the pattern better.

still curing..been hanging for 2 days and I just put it back in the safe to sit for one more day. its almost completely dry but there are a few areas on the scope that are still slightly tacky.

Used my wife's beach towel as a backdrop.....she was not amused

The photo's make it look much lighter than it actually is. It has a base coat of foliage green and it shows through better in person.
The lighter sage color really stands out with the lighting.

Green sand and sage.
In my area you are either in thick dark green and browm swamp or in palms and saw grass.
currently I am hunting a area with a ot of palms and old oak hammocks The lighter sage and brown colors go perfectly with the palms.
If I decide to change location I can always just hit it with more green.

First base layer sand....then random brown splashes, then tan dusting over it again.  Don't get too anal, just let it fly and wear naturally!

After you posted these, I was inspired. I was looking for a Sig brace alternative and had never really given the cheek rests a second look, but then I found Thordsen Customs and ordered one.

I need to paint everything again, but it's super comfortable. Thanks!

seeing the thordsen set up is what convinced me to build a pistol in the first place, that and psa having kits for $399.  not as good as having a stock but definitely not bad.  with a .22 kit its the most fun range toy

Taped up and ready to start.

Khaki base coat.

Some leafy "stencils".

Finished.

Always thought an urban/snow camo would look sick on a sniper rifle. Maybe just not this one, I'm not a fan. Everybody that sees it in person loves it, the paint job itself is sick, tuff too. Brass deflector isnt even scratching, but I'm torn on what to do. I own 4 desert camo rifles already, otherwise it would be easy. Probably go with an OD green base, and add khaki and brown as needed. What do ya'll think?
