So it can take up to 6 weeks? Is it generally a lot quicker then that?

Mine was cashed in the same week I mailed it out.

They're very efficient, and private sector like when it comes to taking your money.

Based on recent examples:
I had two that Silencer Shop said they mailed on 6/14 that were cashed 6/30.
I just bought a can locally, forms mailed on Mon 7/14 and check cashed on Thu 7/17.

Just note that if you're looking for a cancelled check you may not see it. They convert it to ACH, so look for the amount, not an actual check being cashed.

Mine was cashed two days after they received it.

Currently fast. In the past it has taken a month or more.

I've been in the game since 2006 and I'm waiting on stamps 10 and 11 right now. I've never had it take more than 5 days from the time I mailed my forms to them cashing it.

Weird. I was told it could take as much as 6 weeks of course mine was a MO and it was paper form

It can but with most things the ATF is going to overestimate to cover themselves.

The process a year ago was really slow. Maybe a month or two between when they cashed and your papers went pending. I would be more vigilant about when they go pending after the check is cashed.

I've always used a check so I can see when the money gets there. Sending a money order is a mistake. It costs you money and time and you lose the ability to track part of the process.

I've never efiled.

Typically it will be cashed within a week of them receiving it. However it takes up to 8 weeks to go to pending status. For example my most recent form 4...

Mailed packet/check: 05/13/2014
Check Cashed: 05/19/2014
Went Pending: 07/16/2014

I know the Cashed -> Pending timeframe used to be 2+ months (that's how long all four of mine mailed in Aug/Sep last year took, with all having Nov pending dates). However, that time got down to around a week in April, but does appear to be getting slightly longer. Your dates seem to be about twice as long as the average though.

The most recent data from NFATracker, looking only at paper forms. Ignoring mailing date, here's the comparison of check cashing to pending:
6/24-7/16
6/24-7/15
4/2-7/15 (something isn't right, as they said forms mailed 7/1...maybe they're counting check written when buying out of state?)
6/12-7/11
6/19-7/9
6/12-7/9
6/12-7/9
6/16-7/9
6/13-7/8

I have two that checks were cashed on 6/30, but I haven't called to check in about a week. Will call between Wed-Fri to see. Had another one cashed 7/17, and another form mailed 7/21, so I'll have a couple recent examples to update as well.

They are always quick to get the money. My checks are cashed within a week always. The paperwork on the other hand is tossed onto a pile and won't be seen again for many months....

I sent one in last month. They cashed the check the same week (four days I think) and it took a month to go pending.

I had two form 4s mailed on 6/24, delivered 6/27, both checks cashed 7/1.

Update. As of 7/30 it has not been cashed yet according to the USPS.
Called the NFA and they did receive the paperwork and sent the payment on to be processed.....Call back in a few weeks. I will say the person I spoke to was pretty nice and helped me find the info pretty easily.
