I have never liked the pertty gun thing when it comes to Milsurps. I really love the old war horses, you know, the ones that have the well used look and sometimes battle scares.
I stopped off at one of the local shops and there was a well used Russian Tokarev in the case. It didn't have the ugly safety added to it and there was no inporter stamp. A closer look and I see that it's a matching 1940 Tula. 99% of the finish is gone but I like it.
Well I just had to have it so, I went home with a little less money in my pocket.

It's too short to call a war horse so I will call it my Russian War Pony.

Very nice.  I'd take one of those in any condition without that stupid safety

Those '40 Tulas must have all been rode hard and put up wet.

Cool find.  I'm a fan of the, "stored at the bottom of the volga river," look the commies used. Enjoy:-)

Imagine that in 100% shape, but with a Turnbull color case finish on the frame.

I saw a Chinese M20 in similar shape recently and forced myself to walk away. Do you mind asking how much you picked up the Tula for?

I picked it up for $250 out the door. Collector value is$600 to $800. At auction a few have gone as high as $1400 but that is crazy. Now a 1941 Tula would be worth a good bit more then a 1940 due to the fact the Tula factory was moved in 1941 and not many guns were built by Tula during that year.

Bet that one shot at least a couple of folks in the back of the head.  German or Russian or both.

Very nice, there is a certain appeal or allure to guns that have obviously been used for their intended purpose nefarious as it may be. You always have to wonder the course one has traveled to reach its final destination.

Lots of conflicts between 1940 and now many of which that pistol could have found itself involved in, you just have to wonder.

I would have bought that for $250 without hesitation.

This one most likely saw it's last action in Vietnam. The firing pin retaing pin has been replaced with a nail that has been pinned in place. The original pin was a split pin and were known to break. Using a nail to replace the pin was a common repair by the vietcong .

How long are you going to wait until you send it off for Duracoating?

I appreciate the well-worn and used character. In their own way, both the previously well-used pistols look great.

Great find - Tokarevs are very under rated pistols. This is a 1964 Chinese. Also have a 1950 Russian and a 1980s Norinco.
