I have been out of the loop because of work and travel. I've had some medical issues and now I have some time and Doc says I need to get out and exercise so I've been thinking of varminting again.

With all the new takedown options I have been thinking about SBRing a 10/22 takedown so I can use a 10/22 charger takedown barrel with the suppressor and the longer 16-inch barrel I have. Obviously with the takedown there are tons of options!

Has anybody here done it and any regrets? My budget is limited these days so I need to buy smart.

Note, my goal is to have the option of using the short charger barrel or longer rifle barrel with stock. I doubt I even need the charger frame as I won't use it as a pistol most likely.

Im in the planning stages of this project, but I want a dual barrel rifle.

The problem is the optic mounting. It must be on the barrel to RTZ. Magpul has a decent option now with the backpacker optic mount, but I dont know of it must be used with that stock. Ive sent them an email and asked.

Im trying to plan my build in the most cost effective way. I like the look of the adaptive tactical charger barrels with the cantilever optic mount. But I dont think they come with the locking block.

I have the backpacker and that new optic mount on order. From what I see I expect you should be able to modify ant takedown forearm to make it work but I need to get my hands on it first.

Regardless, with QD optics I think this shouldn't be too much of an issue even if I had to swap things around. Mounting TECH sights or NDS sights might be possible too as long as we zero by adjusting the front sight. That could be more complicated so need to consider how I would do that!

Zeroing using the front is meaningless if the rear is moving relative to the barrel.

I'm finding that I can build one using a stripped receiver cheaper. I can build one using a tac sol barrel and bx trigger for around 500.

The equivalent td in a lite or target will run the same with oem trigger and barrel 450-500.

Here is something I've noticed. Using CCI Std Vel ammo in a 16" threaded takedown, I see little to no residue in my Gemtech Outback iit . As a matter of fact, I had to take it all the way down and use q-tips to swab the baffles in order to see the residue. The question is, at what point in barrel length does this happen?

PS. Yes. It remains subsonic.

The only thing I dislike about the backpacker Is that huge chunk out of the heel. I get it, but a lot of times I use that area as a rest

Thanks - I like that setup and if I can scape up the money I may just Form 1 my 10/22 TD! I've been disabled for going on a year so funds have been insanely tight and sold most of my guns but Doc wants me out walking so I might as well try hunting to motivat me better.

The front sight moves relative to the barrel the same as a rear. With either the TECH or NDS all elevation is in the front as is. The TRCH sights use a dovetail to slide left or right. The NDS does not have the same movement but can still be done with minor metal work. It wouldn't be perfect and perhaps it is best to just zero for the SBR upper as frankly I am not sure with that setup why someone would go back to wanting to run the 16-inch barrel but certainly can be done - or I can do it!

Nice man. Our options are limited and I think this is the best stock. I can't wait to shoot it. The ergonomics feel great.

The backpacker stock seems to leave the muzzle/crown very unprotected... I cant bring myself to give one a shot until I see more feedback on them and handle one.

Looks like the muzzle end of the barrel just hanging out there for the world to bump into unless you are going to case it:

If I'm going to case it, why not use a roll bag or a case similar to the Rugger case.

Maybe it interlocks better with the receiver end of the stock than I'm expecting it to but I'd be worried about the barrel end and the receiver end separating on a regular basis.

Buy two, use the extra forend to fill in when the rifle is assembled? Sell stock on EE.

Actually, I hope magpul will sell the forend seperate. Lots of reasons guys may want two barrels for a single TD receiver.

Also, why couldn't the space be used for something else like a removable survival kit perhaps? I need to get my hands on one.

Can you take and share a photo with the suppressor mounted with the forend clipped into the stock?

I filled out my Form 1 today but need to get fingerprints and go talk with police chief for my prints but I am sold.

Yea, I am behind times - I filled out the info and saw the certification but didn't catch they don't sight. I've been out of the loop and I hadn't done a transfer or build in quite a few years now.

Same here. I love mine, great product. It was actually more accurate that the stainless steel barrel that came with my gun.

This barrel, combined with a woodstock from 1022td-woodstocks.com results in a very classic-looking rifle, but with all the functionality of an SBR takedown. Here it is with my Tacsol Axiom.

There's about a 3mm gap between the stock and the shroud

Thanks, it sits even shorter than I thought, I am going to clone your build only with the addition of NDS sights and the Magpul optic rail.

Edit - I never asked and you never said - is this the standard 10-inch charger barrel or something shorter?

I never understood the take down 10/22 when the charger was a much better option with a brace. I am thinking about having my KIDD barrel cut down to 4.5" to use standard velocity ammo. I have plenty of subsonic ammo along with standard velocity, but using SV ammo appeals to me as it's easier to locate.

I was having a similar thought. It just didn't involve braces or Chargers.

Once you have the SBR, the ability to remove the barrel becomes much less of a needed feature. I SBRd a 10/22 in the early 2000s (pre-Charger or takedown models). With a folding stock and a stubby barrel, it gets at least as as compact as the takedown model would. I don't really feel left out not being able to quickly remove (and possibly misplace) my barrel.

If you want it more compact for transport, just unscrew the silencer.

I am nearing completion of my 4.5" 10/22 Charger takedown with a side folding shockwave blade build around a Blackhawk Axion stock.

A member on here helped me out with the idea. I have a few more hours of work on it until I am done.

Here it is at the moment:

Keeps all ammo subsonic and no tax stamp

Folds and takes down.

Here's a video showing it in the old stock and shooting is suppressed:

32 3/4 inches with my Spectre IIk.

I'm thinking cutting the barrel down to the edge of the front part to make more compact. Since I have many many many bricks of subsonic rounds...why not?
