Ok,

So I found this little sucker floating around in the quad rail... Not sure if it is part of the barrel nut-  Barrel is still rock solid, so I think it is part of the shroud... Just making sure that it is not part of my barrel assembly that is gonna cause serious problems!

It is part of the shroud. It's not necessary buy it fills the gap around the barrel on the back end.
