I figured this question would get asked a lot, but I didn't see any posts with it in the forum.  Sorry if I'm beating a dead horse.

I've had one in the past that was junk.  My kids both shoot this gun at the range every time we go and it would be nice if they didn't have to reload after 10 rounds.  So I'm just curious what you guys have used that seem to work.  I forget what the one I had that was junk.  But you couldn't get very many rounds in it.  They would just get stuck.  It was irritating.

I think I also have to replace the spring on my original 10/22 mag.  I lost the 2nd one.  But it was made in the 60's and they seem to get 1 or 2 malfs.  Like double feeds and stovepipes and I think it's with the original mag. And the spring seems week.  Is that an easy thing to do?  Do you call ruger or does Midway or Brownells carry them?   I can just go look, but this place usually has good answers for all this stuff, so it doesn't hurt to ask.  Eh?

Thank you very much.

Ruger BX-25's and BX25X2's.  Cheapest place I've found them is CDNN when they're on sale.

The BX-1 and BX-25 are the only mags I have seen work reliably.

The spring in your BX-1 is fine. You just need to pre=tension it properly.

1. Loosen the mag screw and remove the end cap.

2. Position the rotor so that the large fin is at 11:00.

3. Install the end cap. Put the index finger of one hand on the screw and press gently so it does not retract when you install the nut.

4. Seat the nut onto the end of the spring. You will see a small hole in the shoulder of the nut's shank. The pointed end of the spring MUST go into this hole.

5. Grasp the nut securely in two fingers and wind the magazine around it for 1 1/3 full turns (8 flats of the nut). Push the nut into the end cap; you will need to gradually release our pressure on the screw head so that the nut can move into the cap.

6. Tighten the screw so it's just barely snug. Over-tightening the mag screw can cause the mag to bind resulting in feeding problems.

BX-25s. Though I still prefer my 10 rounders

I have a few butler creek mags that I've had since forever, both steel and plastic lip ones, that still work perfect, and have never had an issue. I keep thinking that the plastic lip ones would start to fail soon as they've seen so so many rounds, but they still keep chugging.

Since ruger released their bx25 mags, I've switched to buying them, as I feel the build quality is superior and they just feel better in the hand, and look better.  However, since their release, I've been hoping that they would level off at about $15-17 each, but that hasn't happened.  At twice the price of the butler creeks, I may just go back to butler creeks and call it good.

Two butler creeks here. Only issue is they don't feed pmc zapper reliably but they just go to town with Winchester wildcats.

When I'm rolling by academy without guns in the truck and cash in my pocket I'll pick up some BX25s

I bought the BX-25.  I didn't really see the 15.   Plus it's for my kids and they were excited about it.  So......  Less reloading for them.  I don't think the mag will be in the way when they shoot.

Don't forget to lube your 10/22. They are easy to neglect sometimes, but a quick spray of lube on the bolt goes a long way to prevent malfunctions.

Same here, but only because I bought a fuckton of them after the Federal AWB expired and Bill Ruger was still running the company.

Once he went 6 feet under and the CEO actually began running Ruger for a profit for shareholders they came out with the BX25 mags.

If I had it to do over I would go with the Ruger Factory mags.

Thank you.  I put some CLP on it every range trip.  I'm usually shooting my AR's at the same time the kids are shooting the 10/22, and I use CLP on my AR's.  It's operating procedure.

Just got it yesterday.  I'm curious if you can rest it on the bench or use it for support, and it still function.   Like an AR........................   It seems big enough that it might end up like that when the kids are shooting at the bench.

I've only ever used the Ruger factory ones (BX25), and they have worked every time. Never had a reason to try a third party.

I just ordered 4 of the Ruger BX25's last night but still haven't found a source for the GSG 110rd drum mags.

Are they still being produced ?

I use BX25s in my RAR.  They are fine and all in the 10/22, but it is almost a load on Sunday and shoot all week affair with a bolt action critter/target gun.

I have a collection of Butler Steel lips mags that seem to work the best out of THOSE kind of mags.

The best generally are the Ruger roto 10 rounders.

I found that the new BX-25 (have seen but haven't purchased them - 15 rounder) are just as reliable in my 10/22s.

FYI, Cabelas has them on sale at 2 for 40 and in stock online currently here,

I have a bag full of various mags. Some 40 years old, some brand new. Orange, clear, smoke, 25, 30, 50. Eagle, Ruger, you name it.

I find plastic lip mags generally have lower quality. I like the BC Steel lips and the new Ruger mags best.

We used it yesterday for the first time.  My son shot approx 250 rounds.  With 2 double feeds in that time.  One was for sure with the Bx25 and I'm not sure about the second one.  He was using the factory 10 rounders too.  And one of them has been giving me issues.

So.....  All in all I'd say it's gtg.  We'll see if you keep getting double feeds.  One here and there isn't a big issue though.

Is 25 meter target.
