I am in mad love with Multicam Tropic Multicam tropic looks like the camo I been looking for awhile now, but I had to settle with plain multicam instead. My area in open fields that goes into deep woods/mountians and while multicam was great in the fields it sucked it the woods, This may be the answer I'm looking for! Quick question though, how would this mulitcam work in a field with brush and such? All I can find is it in woods, no "open field" tests? Do you think you could test that out for my before I drop $150+ on this camo? Thanks, View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Originally Posted By PA-Minuteman:

Do you think you could test that out for my before I drop $150+ on this camo? Thanks, I like Tropic a lot. However, like many other patterns, its a fairly environmentally specific pattern. Its real home is in the woods/jungle. I've not tried it in any real open area's. I suspect that in that kind of terrain, standard Multicam will be more effective. I could be wrong though. Having to transition through multiple environments is where Multicam shines. Its not as "good" in each specific environment as a dedicated pattern is, but it works well enough to be viable. As for standard Multicam and woods, I used to be one that wasn't overly impressed with it in that terrain. However, the more I've worked with it, the more I've come to like it in woodland environments. I'll start looking and see if I can find a suitable area to do some testing in with the Tropic. You may also want to give All Terrain Tiger Stripe a look as well. |

If you read the article, it shows it scored less effective than Multicam in all but one environement. It makes sense if you think about it since Scorpion was basically Multicam version 1.0. Crye improved on it and it became what we now know as Multicam. |

I call that "operationally negligible" At that point, it's not your camo giving you away, it's your gear, your rifle, or something else. I wouldn't call the test exhaustive by any means as the test was a picture in a picture and not even a live test in the field. The Army could have saved millions by just sending a knife hand expert SGM to US Army Sniper School and saying; "Hey guys, we need a new camo pattern. You, you, and you, find one in a week." |

MC and MC Tropic work well together and will cover 90% of the terrain and environments east of the missisippi. For your area, add in a simple lightweight MC Alpine smock for winter and your set. Gear wise, you can get away with using standard MC gear, even with the Tropic. It makes for a nice breakup effect if you dont want to run 2 different sets of gear. |
