Lately there have been a lot of threads created to ask opinions on the varying options as far as chest rigs go. This thread will contain both low profile, and full load out rigs. It will contain as many possible brands and versions each brand offers, as possible. If I miss any, Please feel free to post them. If you have any reviews of any of the following rigs, please feel free to post them. However. If you choose to do so, please make it as in depth, and as professional as possible. Please no +1s or I have this, and I like it. If you have one, and you like it, write it up. Make it sound good and tell us why you like it and what you don’t like about it.
These options are not listed in any particular order as to quality, design, or favoritism. They will be listed by brand however. Just cause it’s at the top of the list, doesn’t mean it’s the best. The Descriptions listed are the manufacturer’s descriptions, and are should not be taken as opinions of the OP. I will NOT post pricing, as it is subject to change by the manufacturer. |

Great post - wouldn't be complete without the well regarded SKD Tactical version of the Eagle Universal Chest Rig. Great review at Military Morons.
4 x Pistol mag/Flashlight/Multipurpose tool. 2 x Pistol with lightmount or AR mags (2 x M4 mags per pocket). 2 x AR mag (2 x M4 mags per pocket). 1 x Internal map compartment 1 x Mesh general purpose pocket (back-side) +1 for sticky |

mods... this forum could use another sticky... Lord knows there are enough forums with worthless tacked threads (via outdated/red x's, or dead info) in them. This one is VERY useful.
PLEASE TAC THIS THREAD. ... and thanks for your support. Also, this could be paired with a thread or three that discusses ALL ammo pouches, man purses, and LBV/tactical vests. Make it an "LBV/Chest Rig/Ammo Pouch" Thread. edit: grammar and spelling, and a call for ALL ammo carriers to be included in tacked thread. |

there is no pertenent information in this post and by reading it you are wasting your time this is simply a ruse to say that this page has been tagged and i couldn't figure out anything else that was "clever" to write.

Okay, So I finally took the plundge and bought a chest rig. I got it off of our EE forum. I picked up the DBT Low vis w/molle Chest rig.
The stock picture does not do this chest rig justice. If you look at the stock picture it looks like the chest rig goes from one under arm to the next. It doesn't. it goes from basically arm to arm. never reaches the underarm. I am using it for ak magazines, and find that it fits the 20 round mags almost perfectly. I don't have any 30 round mags atm, so i can't really try those out. Each magazine pouch is topped off with the standard elastic bungee system. This is probably the only thing that I don't over care for, as the bungees are a tad short. I'll probably end up modifying them, as I will probably try to fit a glock 17 into one of the pouches, so it will need to be longer. I don't run anything above 20 round magazines, so for now the height of the bungess on the magazines are find. We'll see how they work out when i put the mag pulls on it. The shoulder harness is your standard thin webbing, and is not padded. no biggie, as there are people that make padding for harnesses. Personally I don't find it overly irritating. all in all, i give it a huge thumbs up. especially since I can easily conceal it under a jacket/pullover. Soon as i get a better camera and/or my other pouches attached, i'll post those. I'm adding a 9.25 inch long by 6 inch tall admin pouch to it, and a couple of pistol mag pouches. |
|
|
As soon as you can let us know if the 30 rounders work with that one too. Thanks.

How does this chest rig ride for you when loaded with mags and can youi draw the mags fairly easily? I'm thinking about getting one for my KISS SHTF gear. I just don't see the need for 12 mags on my chest, 2 on the belt, and one in the AR. And I can add only pockets that I really need. |

Now you done it! I got chewed for being a cheap bastard looking at the 5.11 mini-chest rig not too long ago. Some people have given them less than stellar construction reviews. Plus they only come in black or FDE.
You can pick up a Tactical Tailor Mini-MAV that is the same as the 5.11 rig, but built better for $37 shipped. And it comes in ARFCOM approved Multicam. Check on the EE for a post by RainierKnives. |

The one pictured is for the 9mm mags (12 MP-5 mags) ETA: They don't show it on the site anymore, but they were offered for both types of mags. |

There are very few personal problems that cannot be solved with the suitable application of a good 357 magnum.

Here is a "grab and go" that is even more basic. I have one of these (or a copy of one ) that works pretty well |

Nice worke mate.
Ok here are my 2 cent... I hade a BHI Recon CR...I did not like it cause the shoulderstrap attachment to the front rig was very flopy and a PITA to shift around all the time. Next was the Eagle SKD-universal-special. The vertical elastic-straps on the mag-pouches were not tight enough to hold a second mag after the first one is drawen. I also don´t like the pistol-mag-pouches on the M4-pouches. One flap to secure 2 mags.... and when the flap is up I find it hard to grab the mags...even harder with gloves on..caue they stay so tight together that you have a hard time grabing them when in a hurry. But for the price I have to say that you have a complete -carry all- CR wich you can trow in every car in your household. Not to nice...but less $$$ Next time I will try a TT-MAV or a Eagle-SKD-all-molleCR and set the pouches up the way I want them. |

Another rig that, IMHO, is often completely unnoticed or underrated is the Blackhawk STRIKE Commando Recon vest. I've got an older Gen 1 version which works great, but doesn't have the optional Plate Carrier harness so I have to sew one onto chest rig. HOWEVER, the newer one (currently on the market) sells for about $100 (can sometimes find 'em for $75 used in great cond.)... And it includes padded straps, quick release buckles, cross-back or H-style harness, and 10x12 plate carrier harness.
YMMV, but my experience with the Gen 1 version has proven it comfortable, reliable, and allowing LOTS of carry / attachment points. ETA: GREAT THREAD! |
