Right after I dry fired with the gun disassembled, I knew I was screwed. The re-cocking mechanism is protruding. No reassembly like this. Any techniques for fixing this screw-up (other than guinsmith)?

Send to me for proper disposal!

I keed, I keed....
My best recommendation is to get on SASS Wire to see if some of the cowboy action shooters have a fix for you. Sure that you're not the first with this problem.

Hold the open mechanism and see if the latch will move.

Hold the receiver upside down. Hang that cocking protrusion on the edge of a metal vise, sturdy bench, (or something like that) and push down on the receiver to make the cocking piece protrusion rotate down until the hammers catch and stay cocked.

This method worked for me on an old Lefever SXS but I would recommend using the edge of a hardwood workbench to prevent any damage to the cocking pieces.

Repair complete. Brass rod was the right tool and a lot of force. Thanks to all

Medium duty standard screwdriver.
Insert blade under lever and pry upwards carefully.
