I've read at another site that Remington says yes, but does anyone have personal experience? I have a mid 70's Wingmaster 12g mod choke, I'd really like not to spend the money on another shotgun or replacement barrel if possible.

A modified choke will be fine with steel. The only one which could potentially be a problem is full. The old rule of thumb when transitioning from lead to steel shot was to consider a constriction intended for lead to be one size tighter when using steel. No "extra full" for steel.
