There is a Remington 870HD buried in there somewhere...
I freely admit I built this for looks (although it is fully functional). I'm sure many of you feel it is impractical/ugly/heavy/blasphemy/all of the above. I don't care, I dig it. Kinda reminds me of the shotgun from HALO: Reach. I may remove one of the light mounts, but I like having the button shrouded. We'll see. May also add tritium sight inserts, but the light leaves a good silhouette for the sight and I may not need them. The side rails will get another section of cover each, I'm still tinkering with the rail screws so I didn't put them back on yet. And I know the front sight is "backwards." Believe me, it looks all kinds of wrong the other way. Special thanks to hotrod_sxty8 for re-doing his magpul forend for me in black... Parts list follows the pics. Pastry out. Rem 870 HD w/factory +2 extension. Magpul MOE forend unobtainium conversion by hotrod_sxty8 Link CAA grip (a take off from my AR15 I had lying around) Magpul UBR stock (removed from another AR, I just preferred the CTR for carbines) Mesa Tactical High tube stock adapter without rail (let me know if you want the rail, they don't sell them separately) ETA 18" Rhino Rail Daniel Defense fixed sights Cheapo light mounts I found on ebay Surefire G3 led Magpul rail covers (ETA Hotrod's how-to thread link). |

thats bad ass looking. magpul needs to jump on the boat and start making real forends for shotguns. imagine how much they would make off that being able to use the moe handguards ability to put rails where ever you need them and the MVG would be awesome

I like it.
But why is the rear sight more like a mid sight? Why isn't it all the way to the rear? |
|
I'm not sure what it weighs, I don't have a scale. Definitely solid, but pretty well balanced. It's going to be on counter-burglar duty and not really be expected to go any farther than from under my bed to the front door, so I didn't worry about it too much.
As for the sights, they just feel really natural and quick to acquire there. I leave the rear on the large aperture and it just all seems to line up. Plus it looked really weird all the way back. Cost wise I try not to think about. $7 or 8 hundred maybe, but I had the grip and stock to begin with, and UBRs ain't cheap. Hotrod cut me a deal...I sent him the parts and paid for shipping, and he built the forend for free so he could do a write up. Otherwise I'd have gone with something aftermarket. Honestly I would have gotten a surefire forend, but they won't clear the ETA rail on the bottom. Thanks for looking. |

Awesome I have 4 stock 870's sitting in my safe. I got a real good deal on them as a lot, $450 for all of them. One of them may turn into a copycat of yours.

i love that rhino rail....what length barrel is on that? I got an 18" police barrel on my 870 express magnum. wondering if it would fit
|

Crew served?
You should get the GG&G adaptor that mounts a set of wheels to it so you can roll it around. Looks heavy as hell. Seriously, it looks beefy and nice. I took off my high adaptor and replaced with the Urbino stock. Much lighter and more handy.

That's... Interesting.
Question: Is that whole rail supported by the FCG pins? Or is there some other support at the front end? |
|
Doesn't match what I'd want in a shotgun, but I do admit, it's very cool looking
|
|
Thanks all. Again, not sure on the weight, but it's pretty stout. Fortunately I am really, really buff.
The rail is supported by both FCG pins in the rear and in the front by a barrel clamp underneath, which does most of the work I think. You can see the hex nuts where I left off the rail cover sections. They thread through the sides. That rail is much lighter than you would think. Most of the weight is the light and mounts. It is a bit front heavy. I think the barrel is 18" or 18.5". Whatever is standard on the HD model. |

I like it !!!
My son saw it and said that's from Halo. Very cool !! |

|
Definitely not for me, but most definitely looks the titties.

I was building the same exact thing but ended up selling it on Gunbroker to fund another AR build.
Looks good. |
|
I'll take it...
Excapt swap out the stock with a Knoxx Blackhawk recoil reducing stock... |

You could definitely design movie prop guns. I'm not creative enough to come up with something like that. I just end up copying other people's stuff and feel like a tool.
|
|
You could walk thru Walmart with that thing, and no one would know you are carrying a shotgun. :)

Oh not really...it's all off the shelf stuff, I just did a lot of hunting for the combination I liked. The MOE was Hotrod's doing, and not only did I copy it, he made it for me. Hopefully he'll be along wiht the how-to soon for those of you who are jonesing. I forgot to mention in the parts list that the light has a clicky cap on it. Obviously a pressure switch wouldn't work here. |

Nice Build...I've been thinking of going the same route with my 11-87 Police, just go all out with a Rhino Rail and accessories. :)
In my opinion a Home Defense Shotgun like that would probably scare to Death the would be invaders and save you some $$$ on ammo! |
|
looks damn cool but not for me
I would like to know the weight if you get a chance |
|
Look, I first saw this thread the other night and honestly I wanted to mouth the shit out of it. I did ill be honest it looked like hell as a first impression, but now I'm like damn I want that. The only thing I can equate it to is screwing a fat chick, you dont want people to know about it but its fun as hell. If i wasnt funding an SBR build I would clone that in a heartbeat.
Game on OP, Game on |

Wait, there is an 870 in those pics?????
I kid I kid, nice shotgun man. A little overdone for me, but it does look cool. I am more of a KISS person. Gimmie a regular 870, surefire fore-end, reduced LOP stock, and a high quality mag extension and I will be happy lol |
|
You'd have to be a 7 foot tall spartan to lug that som'bitch around
You need to take that to a trap shoot. The old guys will love it. |
|
Is this the one? Here's my Police 870, zombie killer! Raaawrr!

Aren't the MBUIs too low? That's one of the reasons I went with the DD fixed...
|
|
"Get that tactic............."
Wait a sec... That is actually pretty neat. I like it. Carry on. |
|
Having carried an M60 in a previous life, I can honestly say It's not THAT bad...plus it's not belt fed, you don't have to pin it down to keep it from wandering away while firing...
