Does anybody know if magazines for a FNP 40 will work in a FNS40?

Thanks!

They won't. The lockup is completely different. FNP mags have cutouts where-as FNS mags have a tab that sticks out and locks into the gun.

Is there an engineering reason for the different cutouts?

I'm going to guess easier design for the full time ambi mag release instead of switching the button from one side or the other like most other manufactures.  David

Yep. Beretta is using the same style lockup on their new APX or whatever, which has an ambi mag release.

Ok, just so long as it's not a gimmick to make us buy more mags

The mag difference is entirely between the mag catch difference.  It would have been nice if they would have made the FNS mags to work in all.  The FNX and FNS magazines are supposed to be the same.

Negative.  Fnx and fns mags aren't compatible, I tried the other day.

I believe the .40 FNX/FNS mags are interchangeable.

The 9mms are not though...

This is correct.  The 9MM mags will not interchange.  The .40's do.  I have no idea why,  and I have no idea why I left that detail out.
