Why?

Kinda want my 5.5" cut to around 3", to keep it long enough for a pic rail and light

I’m going to turn my tapered barrel into a flush stubby. The rest will be 3.5”-4” if I chop them. Should keep bulk pack subsonic still.

I posted this before, but this is 10 yards, Fed Suppressor Ammo, before I had sights.  I was just "guestimating" a hold and looking for a group.

Now that I have sights, I'm squarely on target at 15 yards (longest I've shot so far).

I sent a MKIV to Dwilson a few weeks ago. Going 3.5" on it. This will give me MKIVs in 2.75", 3.5", and 4.5" flavors plus the integral Paclite TSS. I'll try and get a group shot when it's back for comparison sake.

How do you get him to respond so quick? Took over a week to reply that I wanted mine changed. He said I should buy a spacer, something I specifically mentioned I don't want to do. I asked if I can send it back and crickets. Annoying.

If you guys aren't doing a full chop it's probably worth it to buy an upper from Volquartsen.

Here's their 3.5" chopped upper for $140

That's an outstanding deal, IF you already have a MKIV.  I'd jump, but my entire logistics train (mags, etc.) is MKII/III.

Maybe a drop down choice or disclaimer would help with thread length?

I'm going to shoot you an email looking for the rimfire length on my chop if it hasn't been done already.

I did just add that to the website. Since there seems to be some confusion. 0.5" is the standard thread length for rimfire cans. It's odd that a suppressor manufacturer would deviate from this and make a can that only works with 0.4" threads.

I know Dead Air makes a spacer for this, but why not just make the can work with 0.5"??

I'll be the first to admit I did some ASSuming when ordering my chop and thread. I'd seen the work done and really wanted it, specifically for my MK IV and the SiCo Spectre II. I even saw pic of your work with the Spectre II and it looked great. I knew there are different lengths and cuts for threads and I didn't ask in my rush and excitement to have it done. I should have and that's on me.

My 15-22 has AR-15 length threads. The SilencerCo and Dead Air spacer are perfect for that, the spacer is the diameter of an AR barrel. It looks very weird on a Mk IV.

I measured some other threaded .22's.

Ruger Mk IV Lite factory thread length = 0.408"

TacSol 10/22 threaded barrel = 0.411"

D.Wilson Chop and thread = 0.507"

S&W 15-22 w/SiCo spacer = 0.375"

S&W 15-22 w/o spacer = 0.620"

It blows my mind in this day and age that they haven’t gone to basic standards for stuff like threads.

It does look good. I have another spare MKIV upper I bought on the cheap I should chop that short. This would give me pretty much everything from 2"-4.5". Dave says mine has been chopped but I'm waiting on black Cerakote refinish. That standard Ruger finish is bleh.

@Plumber576

Couple mins with a razorknife and it fits, however its sloppy without shimming the frame and currently there's nothing to stop it from rotating downwards.
It's doable but needs some modifications and tweaking.

Just occurred to me a ring around the barrel, as per the Streamlight shotgun mount we discussed previously, would secure it from moving around.

So I bought a MkIV target upper for $40 and a spare complete bolt for $30. MkIV is so easy to take down and with the short barrel suppressed I bet it'll need good cleaning after each range session. New upper and bolt are tested and now just waiting to find the right place to have mine chopped.

Volquartsen sells them on eBay regularly. I think they buy pistols from Ruger and sell pretty much everything but the frame. You can get bolts for $30 and barreled/uppers for like $30-$60.

That is epic!! Do you have a link to their page? Haven't been able to find anything. Could use a bolt as I have been debating buying one of the uppers they sell. Want to see if I can design a 3d printed lower.

We cut the barrel to 3.5”, thread it ½ x 28 TPI, and reinstall the factory Ruger® front sight and our Tritium Adjustable Rear Sight.

I'm trying to wrap my head around why they'd add tritium rears to a standard front.  Any idea?

Suppressed MKIV addict here! Got my chop back from dwilson. Cerakote makes these uppers look so much better IMO. For comparison's sake:

-Paclite TSS Integral
-Madd Macs XBAR 4.5" with RMR
-MKIV chopped to 3.5"
-MKIV chopped to about 3" with Burris Fastfire 3

4.5" with Element 2 and 3" with El Camino

3.5" and 3"

Integral vs. 3.5" with Element 2

And the newest upper with a Vortex Venom installed in Madd Macs mount.

Just got my upper back from D.Wilson with the thread length shortened and it's perfect now. Have some VQ guts to go in it, still need to get the right trigger, some new grips, and a Tandemkross safety. It'll also eventually get some paint.

Do it. I completely recommend D.Wilson Mfg., the work is great. I had the sights moved and I purchased a low profile red dot mount from Lobos Industries but I think I'll put that on my Lite upper and keep this one with irons for now.

If you aren't planning on using irons and want to go red dot only right now Volquartsen has bare MkIV uppers for $25.

He recently chopped one of those clearance uppers for me to 3.5" I believe and cerakoted (a couple of posts up). It turned out great. I've got another clearance upper that I just need to chop all the way. I wanted the Paclite integral to fulfill that "OSS HDMS" desire but I am disappointed in the performance. A super chopped MKIV with Element 2 may be the ticket.

If you go to their homepage they have a bunch of categories listed including clearance. I don't know if there's another way to get there it's obviously not the best website. One cool thing they do is that when you are looking at an individual item they will tell you if there is a clearance version in stock. They also sell stuff on Ebay.

Here's a link

Well it's a shooter. No issue stabilizing CCI SV.

Took a new shooter and a Marine who hadn't shot in a couple of years. Neither had shot suppressed before and they found it very entertaining, hence the comment and laughter in the first video.

Shot first with the Spectre II:

Ruger MkIV Chop'n Thread with SilencerCo Spectre II

Then with my Oculus:

Ruger Mk IV Chop'n Thread with Rugged Oculus

Target, ragged holes aren't tumbling, just 2+ rounds

It was a little high so I dialed that in. All told it's just what I wanted. Now time for upgrades.

Took a new shooter and a Marine who hadn't shot in a couple of years. Neither had shot suppressed before and they found it very entertaining, hence the comment and laughter in the first video.

Shot first with the Spectre II:

Then with my Oculus:

Target, ragged holes aren't tumbling, just 2+ rounds

It was a little high so I dialed that in. All told it's just what I wanted. Now time for upgrades.

What are the details of the front sight?  How did you attach?  Drill/tap/screw?  Make and Model?

Moving the front sight is one of the services offered by D.Wilson Mfg. that I took advantage of when I sent my upper in. Maybe someone more well versed could explain how it's done.

I had it done but was planning on mounting a red dot anyways, but after using them and realizing the distances I'd realistically be shooting at I'm sticking with the irons.
