I see a lot of guys using the Ruger Mark III or 22/45 pistols with suppressors.

Are these quieter than a gun with a slide on it like an M&P 22?

The action is louder than the report with my 22/45 and subsonics.

To make it REALLY quiet I thumb the bolt to keep it from recprocating.

Possibly quieter due to the bolt being contained within a tube versus a mostly open slide, but mostly dependent on particular suppressor and ammo.

I am trying to decide as well.

I am torn between the Buckmark, Mark III, 22/45, M&P 22 Compact, and SR22.

I kind of want the SR22/M&P 22c to have a smaller gun for kids.  I think the M&P may be better built (steel pin for slide stop, etc) than the SR22.

ETA: I have a Mark II but probably won't go that route as it is a PITA to clean.

MkIII for a lot of reasons. Price reliability accuracy etc.

Fixed barrel is the key.

22/45 Lite is what you want to buy.  Awesome gun.  Slap a Volquartsens trigger/hammer in there and you are GTG.

And for the record, after having owned a Browning Buckmark, S&W 22A, and several Ruger 22/45's, the factory threaded 22/45 is what I have and recommend.

Im not a huge fan of the 22/45. BUT I love the way they look suppressed any day of the week.

Between 22/45 lite and SR-22, no real difference in suppressor performance (Pilot 2) that I can see and hear.  Both very quiet.....and fun.

I have a 22/45 with all the trimmings inside it, not much on the outside other than HiViz Fiber sites... As it sits, I really like the way it shoots and handles, my biggest gripe is dis-assembly to clean it and re-assembly...

I have the 22/45 Tactical with an Osprey II can that sounds quieter than a pellet gun with subsonics, but it won't cycle the bolt.

Standard velocity cycles the bolt and is still pretty quiet enough to shoot in the house.

My main .22 handgun host is a S&W 422 with a 4.5" barrel. I got a M&P 22 compact and I was pleasantly surprised by how quiet it was. As quiet as my 422 and maybe slightly quieter with Fed bulk pack. Can't speak to the 22/45s as a host, I love them, but mine's not threaded.

I had some Cabela's Points, so I ended up picking up a Smith and Wesson M&P 22...

Shot a few hundred rounds out of it unsuppressed, no issues... I've not got to shoot it with the Can on it, as I had to order a thread Adapter, and haven't got to go shooting since I got it in and on...

It usually does OK with thunderbolt.

With the past shitty availability of 22 I have run Winchester, American Eagle, Federal, Remington, CCI and Aguila all.

It's not very picky, I also have a VQ extractor which helped IMO

I was having a few more problems before I installed that

Owned many, only the 22/45 remains.

The biggest complaint I hear about the Rugers is that they look like space blasters and not a "real" firearm. I want my 22s to run everything, even the cheapest dirtiest bulk ammo around, and the 22/45 has certainly done that. If ascetics are that important to you then by all means get a mosquito or whatever but if you want something that was built around the cartridge and will work then the Rugers have it (and Buckmarks too).

What are your experiences with the Ruger SR22, suppressed?

Thanks

I broke 3 takedown levers on an SR22. Not exactly sure why. It functioned perfectly when not suppressed but would break the takedown lever within 15 rounds when suppressed.

THIS.  I'm hoping to put paperwork in for a Sparrow, but the Essence looks fantastic as well.

After the usual upgrades and a feed lip tweak on one mag, my 22/45 chews through anything I put through it.  It had issues with nosediving Thunderbolt into the feed ramp, but no more.

Happy as hell with mine.

This

Friends have both of the M&P 22's. They are nice guns, but the 22/45 is a proven gun. Also, there are thousands of upgrades out there for 22/45s.

The M&P 22s are very cool guns and cant talk bad about them. I would get the compact for fun and the full size to match my M&P Pro 9 for practice. I still might get one.

I have a Browning Buckmark. I've shot it in steel match for 3 years. A very accurate gun, but is very picky with ammo. For plinking the 1 out of 20 stove pipes are fine, but not for competition. Also, you have to re-zero every time you clean a buckmark. With a can, cleaning has to be done more often.

I have nothing against 22/45s, but I went with a gsg 1911 and have no regrets. Fun to upgrade the parts every so often, but it ran fine stock.

My buddy has a suppressed Browning Buckmark....he loves it.  It used to have the suppressor on a walther .22, but it had issues cycling sometimes.

OK Engineer, which one is your favorite?  If you can't pick one, then which 2 or 3?  Same with reliability. Your 2 cents is appreciated.  I'm shopping, too.  Thanks.

My top two are probably the 22/45 Lite with the addition of a Volquartsen sear and the M&P22. I added a fiber optic front sight to the M&P22 which makes it much easier to get my sight picture. The M&P22 Compact is new so I don't have much experience with it yet. The M&P22 fits my hand better but the compact doesn't feel bad.

My least favorite is the SR22 and that's only because my thumb always end up thumbing down/activating the safety. This takes the pleasure out of shooting an otherwise great gun.

I am still waiting on my Sparrow to be approved.  But, it will be going on a 22/45 Lite Mark III.  Probably with a dot sight of some sort.  The Rugers are great hosts, and the Mk III's with the pre-threaded barrels make the choice easy!

(Well, pretty easy.  I was tempted by the M&P22 the dealer had, more cause I have a Mark II Gov't, and several other Rugers, and I don't own a single S&W.  I am already considering what my next suppressor will, but I am 98% certain the host will be a M&P, probably a .45)

Everyone keeps talking about the "M&P 22".

There is a huge difference between the M&P22.... And the M&P22 COMPACT

The compact is made by Smith and Wesson, the original is made by Walther, The compact has a fixed barrel... The original does not. The compact is aluminum where it counts... The original is not

I ordered the compact from Palmetto
