I just picked up a Beretta Bobcat .22LR in excellent condition, what do I need to know?

Don't hit the barrel release with a mag seated?

Can cause the slide to come off the recoil mechanism.

Gotcha.

I haven't had time to take the little Bobcat to the range but I look forward to it. The gun feels very solid for a .22, aluminum frame with steel slide and barrel, no pot-metal zinc, so that is confidence-inspiring. The trigger also feels pretty good, but I only dry-fired it twice (once in DA and once in SA) since I don't want to damage the firing pin.

Don't try to rack the slide to load it

It loads fine by racking, what's the issue?

Same thing, I'm guessing. Upwards pressure of the ammo stack can cause the slide to come off the recoil mechanism, especially when it's not in battery.

My slide comes off if I do that.

BS.  The slide is still retained by the barrel.

The rear of the slide can, and often does, come off the recoil arms.

if you say so, the first time I tried to load it by racking the slide came off. I have never tried it since then and always load by tipping the barrel. I have a 21 and 950B. Both are fun to shoot.

1)  CCI MiniMags and they function 100%

2)  Expect the two spring fingers inside the nylon grips to eventually break the nylon grip panels.  The factory wood ones do not split and are very nice when you replace them.

3)  Load the M21 7+1 and they work 100%
