Is gold membership the only way you can get in on this possibly?
Cause 5k nucking futs! |

All of the Gold Member guns have been sold. What you are seeing now is the resale of some of those and you don't have to be a Gold Member, just have deep pockets.

Anyone have an extra that they want to sell at non-neckbeard price? Email me...

View Quote I like the idea of having a USMC owned weapon, but at the end of the day it's just a roll mark on an inanimate object. Still kicking myself for not getting in on it though. I had my finger on the "buy" button when these appeared, but decided against it because I had just bought a SS S70 reissue the previous month. |
|
Thanks for the sound advice! The appeal to me was that the decommissioned guns appear to be collectible but still rough enough to shoot/carry.

Damn! I've got several GI bring back military issued pistols in my collection and an issued M45A1 would be awesome!
Looking at this as an investment now...think this is a bubble at a $3,000 purchase price...or room to appreciate? |

I hesitated at first but once I saw a post that the former head of the Colt Custom Dept said they were the real deal I snagged a used one at the original price of $1349. My arm is so sore from patting myself on the back it is pitiful. Falfreak, that is exactly why I bought mine. A piece of Marine history in the right condition to still use and not hurt the value any. I can't wait to find out which unit it was issued to. View Quote I ordered my new one on the 3rd, still hadn't shown that I had an FFL submitted so my dealer sent it in again. Within an hour I had a tracking number. Yes! |

View Quote When was the last time you could buy a genuine military issued 1911 "direct from the source" so to speak? DCM days? Will CMP ever get them like they are supposed to? What kind of shape will they be in? Are they all mixmasters and what will they go for? At $1350 when they first came out they were a no brainer and wish I would have bought two. At $3K I wouldn't be looking at them from an investment standpoint anymore but rather do you really want one and have to have it at that price? I don't think you will loose money but I wouldn't expect to make a killing either. |

Those NIB versions are good looking but it would be a safe queen for me if I had bought one. I much prefer the used, both for the history and to be able to shoot it without having to worry about wear.

The Colt M45A1 is a POS. There's a reason MARSOC dumped them.
But Colt pony fan boyz won't be deterred. LOL |

Now, that's what I like! How much were the new ones selling for in comparison to the used ones? View Quote |

boy would I have loved to get in on the original buy... however, are there 3700 more to be sold? I could see prices come down as a result.

Bit the bullet and bought a ticket to the dance...picked up number 01668 on Gunbroker.
Is it possible to trace a pistol to the unit it was issued to? |

View Quote There are a few guys on the Colt Forum and the 1911 Forum that are digging into that information. Worth jumping in over there to get in on it. |

There is one guy that can provide you some information if the pistol you bought is used. If you bought one of the unissued pistols, there is no unit information available. Look me up on Facebook....Brent Sauer.
Send me a screen shot of the pistol purchase screen on GB and I will approve your membership to the Decommissioned pistol owners FB group. If you have a used pistol, the guy with access to the information is in our group. |
|
Anyway to do it without facebook?
I don't do the book of faces |
|
Send me a PM here on ARFCOM with your name, email address and used decommissioned M45A1 pistol serial number. I will forward it to the guy and see if he will contact you. He charges $10 I think.

Just struck a deal on a second unissued. Now I have consecutive serial numbers

My first one came from Gold Deals on Gunbroker and my second came from the Facebook group
