I'm getting back into the 1911 game with a Springfield loaded MEUSOC clone I found on the EE.

It's been years since I've carried one. My first 2 carry guns were Springfield 1911s which I carried everyday for 5ish years.

At the time I carried in a locally made kydex holster which was OK but I've since come to appreciate horsehide for 4 o'clock carry and kydex for aiwb. Full sized guns are a little to big for aiwb for me so I'm going to stick with 4 o'clock with this 1911.

Im very tempted ordering a summer special from Brownells since it's instock. I just wish it was black. I'm also tempted to try out the vm2.

Any more suggestions?

Let's see how you carry yours on a day to day basis.

Les Baer UTC in warbird IWB holster have had the summer special and VMII the warbird carries better and looks better IMO. Also less money and less waiting time with many options you can add or change your holster any way you like.. Just email paul he will set you up with a nice rig..

I did not know how I would like this sparks, but I like it a lot.  Also carry a 4.25" steel frame in it very comfortably.

Comp-Tac Flatline.  Supposedly IWB and OWB capable but I haven't tried IWB.  I can't really see a full-size 1911 in a huge hunk of Kydex being comfortable.  I may be wrong.

I found that one on the ee for 70.00.  Hands down the best for me, and I have the "box of holsters" .  I have tried a lot of different ones.

Thing is, we read about how great holster xyz is, and it probably is great for some, but never great for all.

Agreed.

Currently carrying my 92fs in this

I've scoured the EE a couple times but I don't mind spending $100+/- on a holster that will last forever.

this was my EDC up until Nov...

current carry -kart barreled 9MM

I have carried the 1911 for edc for years now...and the holster I keep coming back to is the galco OWB pancake leather.  They occasionally see kydex...but the leather conforms better to my body at a 4 o'clock pos.

I have a similar one from m3 tactical for my Beretta compact. Works great on the compact but not on the full sized. The grip is just a little to long. I'd imagine 1911s would be a little to long as well. I wish and might try one any ways.

I ended up buying a KT mech pancake holster. It should be here before the gun and should tide me over untill I find a better EDC rig. The 2 KT mech holsters I have have held up well and are comparable to my rcs. I like haveing an owb for classes and woods carry anyways.

Keep posting pics to give me ideas

I find with the neoprene wedge you can add to the holster, I have no problem concealing the grip on the 1911, as it pushes the top end (butt of the gun) into your body for better concealment. I only add the wedge if I'm wearing a lighter t shirt where concealment may be a little more difficult. Otherwise I leave the wedge off and have no issues.

I also find myself wearing this when in plain clothes at work or training. I just tuck my shirt in behind it as the picture above shows and run it like an OWB rig. I find it faster than my 9 o'clock OWB kydex rigs.

Current EDC, LB UTC, with some work.

Nice holster... Is the maker still in business? I googled but didn't find his website or any recent information on him. I'm not really in need of a holster at the moment but who knows I may decide I do need one after seeing what all he offers.  I will add pictures to this thread later of my set up.

I've tried the wedge. It doesn't help me with the last half inch of grip.

My m3 tactical only has one belt clip. Do you think the second clip (on the top of the slide) helps at all?

I wonder if the Beretta is just to wide and a 1911 would be fine...

Yes I believe the second clip helps. I carried a hi power AIWB and it only had one WIDE clip. Wasn't nearly as secure IMHO as the two clip setup. It worked, but I prefer two.

carried a range officer compact in a VM 2 and it was a great holster. I personally don't care what an IWB holster looks like, because its in my pants. so order whatever color you want.

currently carrying a TRS in I think an El Passo IWB. not terrible, especially being so thin.

I haven't found a replacement yet. I'm still mulling options. I may just reorder the same holster. Im in CA right now and don't have a carry permit for CA. So it hasn't been a priority to get a new one. Especially since I'm on Ft. Irwin and rarely leave post. I've got to get one soon as I'm about to PCS to a free state.

Sure have! I can't carry any other way anymore. In my opinion, if you can carry AIWB comfortably, the tactical and practical advantages it offers make it a no brainer.

I carry mags facing one another to keep edges from catching on gear, it's just an old habit from deployment days using different GI Issue mag carriers.

I don't conceal, Open Carry only.

That's a sold reason.  It took a while for me not to carry both base plates from facing outboard like I had to do with my issued bianchi mag pouches

I really wish I knew who made them, I'd order a few more sets in. They have kind of a sandpaper or griptape kind of feel to them. The closest I've found is Jerry Barnhart's Burner grips.

I just got them and I can't believe it took me this long to change.  My draw is significantly faster.  I had Ergo grips on it and typically as my front sight was coming up the muzzle would over rotate upward, then fall back down a bit.  With the VZ grips there is no rotation, just dead on target.

Biggest problem I have is with the holster.  The uncovered muzzle wears a hole in the inside of my back pocket.  I buy my pants from Duluth, so once the hole is too obvious I send them back and they send me new ones.  It would be nice to have the muzzle covered though.

Enjoyable thread to review!  It is funny these days 1911's are sometimes referred to as old fat mans guns but by the looks of things there are a good number of young thin guys still carrying them! ( I qualify as one of the old fat guys ( gave up IWB a long time ago and forget about appendix which I still can't figure out how anyone can find comfortable) and enjoy my 1911 still ( to be honest I still prefer a classic smith revolver - blued only none that newfangled stainless crap! To any auto)
