I love my full size Range Officer in the correct caliber. But what's the appeal for something like this? I don't get it.

Options. Not everyone wants a 1911 to only be in .45

Without getting into a caliber war:

Extremely soft shooting, cheaper practice ammo.

Some people are fine with 9mm for defense and want consolidate calibers.

9mm rail guns are also extremely lacking in the 1911 market.

This is honestly the first production 1911 that's caught my interest in a very long time.

Looks like they are making them in .45acp as well.

This is very cool as there are really no base model rail guns available for custom builds.

I have been looking at the same things. BUT... most of the descriptions I can find say "Tritium Night Sights" and a few listings say 4" barrel, most say 5". This is all using the same manuf. part #

Ironing out the details has been hard.

There is NOTHING about this on Springfield's site
If someone can find some official specs, let us know

This is interesting but why is it considered a "range officer" over a "loaded"?

I used to have a RO and still have a loaded.  I remember the RO differences were basically the rear sights.  The sights look more like what a loaded has to me.

Is it worth $100 more to have a rail, fiber optic front sight, and fixed rear?

I wish this model had the adjustable rear sight like the regular RO - though charging my TRP with one isn't as "comfortable"

Only things I can think of are it has a fiber-optic sight instead of tritium and it doesn't have an ambi thumb-safety.  Oh and the grips say "Range Officer"

I'm going to be picking ong up for the collection as I don't have a 9mm 1911.
I would love to see a Champion version of this.

Ordered that one from Buds. Lowest they took was $838.

Was looking at STI's and Colt's 9mm 1911s for a while. For me, this was the best deal for the money.

SA seems to be cashing in on the Range Officer Moniker for some reason. The RO compacts are more in line with the loaded series than what the Range Officer was supposed to be (a cheap accurate target gun.

The 9mm operator has really caught my eye.

No, no, not only no, but Hell no.

The adjustable sights on the TRP operator are beyond stupid.

Is it worth $100 over the std RO, well yes if you wanted a railed fixed sight 9mm 1911 from SA.

The Range Officer Operator was the "new gun of the day" today.  I kinda blew it off at first but the more I see it the more I think I'd go for one of these over an MC or Loaded Operator.

So the RO Operator is the MC Operator without the night sights, green frame, grips, and odd front strap texture?

Looks good. How is the fit, tight?

From what I could tell, the RO Operator is like a standard range officer but with the RO compact sights (red fiber up front and white dot rears) and recon frame (rail). If you remember the original MC operator did not have front strap checkering either so I am still more comparing it to a regular Range Officer but has the front cocking serrations like a Loaded. In the end its a hybrid from their lines, I still think its nice and like I said, I will see when the 9mm comes in whether I will get it or not. The fit is fine, as good as all the other Springfields I have felt.

I have been looking for a 9mm in Commander length with lightweight frame.  This Kimber Pro Carry II popped up, used, for $850, private party.  It has a checkered front strap, night sights, bull bushingless ramped barrel,  and extended mag well.  I like it a lot:

I mean, I know it doesn't affect reliability, but if RIA can do it, come on.

I've haven't bought an MC or an LBO because I don't want to pay for the Armory Kote or ambi which will almost instantly be gone.

This will be a great base gun for a custom.

Sweet Brown Gravy!!!

Just FYI, when I went to Bud's they listed the .45 AT the $837 price while the 9mm is listed at $867.

Whose price did you match to get it down?

jealous of that price, they showed OOS when I was ordering from Bud's

eta (@3:04pm): just contacted Bud's asking for a refund for the difference of $41.01. Anyone want to bet how they will tell me to f*ck off or take my 10% restocking fee?

Don't feel discouraged, I used the make an offer option on a Rock Island 10mm. Payment cleared December 27th, still no pistol, shipping update or reply to my email. I wish I would have used my CC so I could just dispute it and get my money back

If you Google "Range Operator" and my screen-name you will find an archived thread here in which I foretold of this on 09-18-14.

Okay, so they didn't use my name or standard sights but they hit the price-point pretty close.

While the Combat Operator is very nice, I can't afford $1,400 right now. So I went ahead and ordered a 9mm RO Operator from Buds. Plus ball cuts look terrible to me, especially on the operator models. With have FCS, the cuts don't look as bad.

1911's without front strap checkering are just, sad

I've been weighing options for a 9mm 1911 with threaded barrel for awhile, would prefer a Commander length slide, but Kimber TLE/RL is looking like the best option.  Unless I find enough nickels under the cushions for a STI Tactical 2011.

Picked it up yesterday. Will take some photos tonight.

Ordered one today at my local ffl. Can't wait.

They also had a Lipseys 9mm Operator with a grey frame, front strap checkering, no forward slide serrations, and a pretty nice rear sight and grips. It was $1500. I thought about it real hard but couldn't spend the extra right now.
