I recently shot some Speer Gold Dot and Federal HST with my Dan Wesson Valor and experienced 2 inertia feeds and 2 failure to lock backs on the last round in the mag. Could this have been caused by the fact that the Dan Wesson comes from the factory with 18.5 lb recoil and mainsprings? The gun has fired 1000 rounds of ball without issue.

I would go to gunsprings.com, and order a standard 16lb recoil, 23lb main, and put Tripp Super 7 kits in whatever mags you're using and that won't happen again.

These 1911 makers don't understand shit like 1911 springs.  Trust me.

I installed a 23 lb mainspring, 16 lb recoil spring, and Tripp Super 7 kits in the mags and headed to the range. No issues with HST or Gold Dot so far. We'll see how it goes.

Bradd, what type of magazines were you using?  Im still in the process of breaking my dw specialist in so far just under 300rds of my reloads 230g ball with 4.7g H-titegroup which chrono around 880fps iirc Federal 230 HST were  approximately the same  No issues of any kind so far with any of my mags  consisting of wilson etm 47d or the supllied checkmate.

Might be the ammo. I usually run Remington Golden Sabers with my 1911's for hollow points. I've had lots of issues with other types of hollow points and the 1911 design. Gotta find something your gun likes. As far as failing to lock open on the last shot, that might be a magazine issue. Try some different mags as well. I like the Tripp Research mags the best. Wilson mags are good also, second favorite.

The mags are CMC Powermags.

Bradd_D my suggestion to you before you start fiddling around with recoil spring and mainspring weights is to try a couple new mag springs from cmc. I believe you can order them for around 10bucks your followers are metal so they should be all right.  I keep spare rebuild kits for my wilson mags in my range kit. I know per Rob @ Nighthawk  they recommend running 17or18# recoil springs which I've been running 17#. They then run a 19# reduced  mainspring to achieve a lighter trigger pull. I believe I've seen posted by keith@DW that they run same setup. Throwing in a colt std 23# mainspring will definitely increase the weight of trigger break. Hope this helps.

The mags are very low mileage and I've had the issue before with newish Powermags and a Springfield RO. The 23 lb mainspring resulted in a 4.5 lb trigger. It's a tad heavier, but is still a nice trigger.

That's interesting usually this is an issue caused by weak mag springs. I've never tried the  cmc power mags before. You stated these are newer mags so that should rule out worn out mag springs. Have you had any issues while using any other mags or the the DW supplied checkmates. Does the cmc power mags have the dimple on the follower?

I haven't tried other mags yet, but the CMCs with Super 7 kits seem to be working. Once I'm confident I've got the issue resolved, I will try other mags. The CMC factory followers do not have a dimple. The Super 7 kits do.

That spring configuration, and the CMC mags with Super 7 kits are THE way to go. Samuse is right.

Those are the Colt factory spring weights.

I recently bought a CMC Power mag and out of the three I was shooting it had more drag in the follower and body. It was brand new and I pushed the follower down with a wood dowel empty and it was squeaking.  It was new I left it loaded for a few days and shot it and oiled it. No jams from it but it did seem odd. I like the nickel plated ACT mags better.

Metal followers can often use with a touch up on some 400 grit wet or dry to smooth burrs on the sides.
